“We live in China, but we saw Fugazi’s DVD as many times as you guys did in America,” says Xubo, singer and guitarist for the most successful contemporary emo band in China, Chinese Football. “I grew up [on] the late ‘90s and early ’00s pop-punk and emo wave,” he says, “so I loved U.S. bands like blink-182, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, and all the bands from Drive-Thru Records back in high school. As I grew up, I listened to more and more.” - The rise of Emo in Asia

Thanks for this. I love to learn more about how music reverberates around the world.

I think we're going to see Fugazi, in particular, resonate for many years to come. I was listening to them a bunch this month and the concerns in their songs sound even more timely today: harassment of women; oppressive commercialism; invasion of privacy; police overreach...

Since I'm now an ad for bandcamp, looks like the Fugazi Oeuvre is on there streaming for free including their first demos (which sounds...A M A Z I N G)

I live for the emo revival, this is awesome! I'm so excited to check out a bunch of new-to-me bands! Incidentally, I'm going to see The Hotelier and Joyce Manor tonight, where I expect to be the oldest person in the room, but that's ok, because the venue gets the kids out of there pretty early so I'm psyched to see some live music and get to bed at a reasonable hour.

I'll be the second ad for bandcamp. What an extraordinary, artist-centered service! Here are few great psych-rock-inflected albums I've purchased from them in the past year or two:

From Tokyo: Kikagaku Moyo, House in the Tall Grass.
From Athens, Greece: Whereswilder, Yearling
From Beijing: Birdstriking, self-titled
From Venice, Italy: New Candys, Stars Reach the Abyss
