My biggest last-minute slacker college student coup was the time I forgot that I had to attend a performance art event and write about it for a Spanish class until midnight before the assignment was due, so instead I just wrote a review of "Knifin' Around" in Spanish. And got an A-.

Huh, interesting. These have been streaming at Adult Swim on an endless loop since C. Martin Croker passed, alongside the inimitable Venture Bros and Tim and Eric. It's nice to have the individual episodes to pick from rather than just checking in and out of the stream.

According to Weird Twitterer and internet historian Spacetwinks, SGC2C, especially Baffler Meal through Live at the Fillmore, is a precursor to Weird Twitter (or whatever the hell, if anything, it's called now).

This is cool but recent adult swim news re: lack of female creators is disheartening. I am torn. Guess the prudent thing to do would be to buy dvds direct from the creators or torrent.

Adult Swim may not hire women, but they do promote diversity: they gave a show to an Alt-Righter, after all.

A lot of the comedy I liked and defended from this era is actually pretty lame and offensive. Wonder Showzen, Family Guy, parts of Aqua Teen. I think Space Ghost and Sea Lab avoid those offensive tropes due to their shear insanity and charm. But that Alt-Right show just takes it to the next level. Don't watch any clips, its like they gave a sketch show to 4chan.

I was watching a ton of Martin Yan on YouTube on a day off because that is what I need to do to unplug from constantly thinking about things to do and came across the Space Ghost episode that he and Emeril were on. It then struck me how bonkers it was that Martin Yan was on that show. And he really was game, too! The bookers and directors must have been amazing explainers and convincers.

Oh, also, now I gotta see that Biiiiiirrrrrdmaaaaan Coast-to-Coast pilot.

I like the episode Sharrock, featuring guest Fred Cracklin (Thurston Moore), who says pretty much nothing whatsoever. The whole 11 minutes is an excuse to blast waves of Sonny Sharrock's noise-jazz guitar freakouts at an unsuspecting audience. It's beautiful.

"Zorak, what do you like doing?"
"Nuthin."
"Well, what are you good at?"
"Everything."

Sadly, none of the episodes seem to be loading for me :(

Words cannot express how awesome this is - for years, we've been limited to the first 3 seasons on DVD, all the later ones are out of print and prohibitively expensive.

Now if we can just get them to do the same for Cartoon Planet...

Which came first? Cartoon Planet or SGC2C? (Also, did Cartoon Planet start as interstitials and then graduate to its own standalone timeslot? )

I'm really curious about who made who. Does anyone have a timeline? Thanks!

SGC2C was first. I have no proof.

Space Ghost was first, and indeed was the first thing on the Cartoon Network that was original programming. (The Moxy Show, starring Bobcat Goldthwaite as the voice of Moxy and Penn Jilette as "Flea," I believe was still mostly a clip show.) Cartoon Planet came around much later, but believe it or not it was not originally a Cartoon Network show! It was created as a way to extend the Cartoon Network property to elsewhere in the Turnerverse, so it actually started airing on TBS! And it started out there as an animation block as well, just using the Space Ghost, Brak and Zorak bits as bumpers around stuff like Tom & Jerry! It didn't last long though, and then they took just the bumpers and repackaged them for late night Cartoon Network (pre Adult Swim).

Something else I remember: the "theme song" to Cartoon Planet, the music that the Space Ghost-suited Andy Merrill dances around to, used to be none other than an instrumental version of They Might Be Giants' party-for-trumpets No One Knows My Plan (which once I found out about it quickly became one of my favorite TMBG songs).

There were some bits, I believe, that only aired during the TBS era, and those exist in few places these days outside the Cartoon Network archives.
