On Friday, singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop released the lead single and video from her upcoming LP Memories Are Now: The Lost Sky

Margaret Ferrell writes at Stereogum:
Hoop’s vocals are frantic and hauntingly anxious, coupled with a simple acoustic arrangement and subtle bassline... The accompanying visual from director Elia Petridis is eerie and not entirely what it seems.
Hoop's most recent release was Love Letter For Fire, a collaborative album with Sam Beam (also known as Iron & Wine). NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

I hardly ever respond to the music/videos posted on Metafilter, because, well, so much music has been made over the decades, that even good stuff has to pass the test of: well, has this been been done before? And usually: yes. But...her style...especially her deliberate use of pausing...well, this is something new to me. I'm impressed.

Been taken with her since hearing some of The House That Jack Built on KCRW back in 2012. The Sam Beam collaboration should have been forbidden by statutory limits on allowed concentrations of awesome. Happy to know there's more coming.
