Hamildolph (An American Christmas Story) An a capella re-singing of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in the style of Hamilton, by Eclipse 6. (The antlers are the perfect icing on the cake.)

I enjoyed Hamilton but it really does feel like people are doing everything they can run it straight through the ground and into the mantle.

That's all we know how to do now. Everything must be loved manically, parodied, remixed, non-authorized T-shirts designed and bought...we must love it so intensely that we start to hate it almost as soon as it hits peak popularity.

Edit: Just watched the thing. It's...white. Really white. May be the whitest thing I've ever seen. It's like eating a mayonnaise sandwich on white bread in a blizzard white.

I've been using Hamilton to get the relentless Christmas music out of my head. It works really well. I'm staying far away from this.

I was shown this last night. I have not seem Hamilton, and I know none of the music (because I strongly want to hear it first in actual performance, as unlikely as that is in the next couple of years). Despite that, even for me, that was my immediate reaction.

Just: wow, that is amazingly white (bordering on uncomfortably so) for a parody of Hamilton.

It's...white.

Given the systemic casting issues that Hamilton reacts to, that was a) the first thing I thought of and b) really uncomfortable. There are things white men shouldn't parody, I am thinking.

As a Christmas parody, it was technically well done, I can give it that.

Hamildolph

Initially thought this must be a Hamilton-Hitler mashup. (... which would still be welcome.)

Yeah, my initial read was Hamilton-Dolph Lundgren so there was no way this couldn't disappoint at least a bit.

The look on Donner's face tho.

I watched it with my kids (4 and 6), and it was a much-loved mashup of two things they love (the Hamilton soundtrack and Rudolph). I doubt any notion of over-whiteness entered their brains, and we all enjoyed it for the entertainment that it was.

I know there's some level of social commentary baked into Hamilton's explicit casting choices (and I find that I'm not immune to the same first impression that other folks have shared), but sometimes I feel a bit overly cynical and jaded... My kids are a good reset.

Yeah, I watched this, and a.)thought it was clever and catchy and b.) worthy of the hashtag #whitechristmas. Which, bummer.
