A very edgy Denis Leary Christmas special, straight from 2005

Old St. Nick’s got bourbon breath, It’s so cold you could catch your death, A cop sold me some crystal meth, It’s a Merry f**king Christmas ♫ And thus opens Denis Leary's Merry F**king Christmas, an explicit holiday special from Comedy Central in 2005, for all those who love Christmas—and for those who can’t wait until December 26th. Obscene parodies of holiday classics and celebrity guests including Charlie Murphy, Carmen Electra, William Shatner, and the Barenaked Ladies, plus a GWB impersonator -- something to upset everyone.

NSFW, if that wasn't already clear.

First there was an album in 2004, then this special, and finally a book.

Political anxiety warning: the Dubya impersonator might seem too timely, despite talking about events almost a decade past.

Good thing Bill Hicks died so Dennis could do his act forever.

One of my favourite moments from Bill Hicks was the answer he gave to someone who asked why he'd given up smoking: "To see if Denis would."

This Christmas special, if anything, convinced me that Denis Leary was spent as a comedic force. I liked No Cure For Cancer as much as anyone, and his second comedy album has a few good bits, but he was better off sticking to his acting career. I laughed a few times watching Merry F**** Christmas, but mostly I was unsurprised. His later special, Douchebags and Donuts, was even worse.

On a slightly more positive note, in regards to Leary and his work: The Ref is an under-rated gem, in my opinion, and is overdue for some sort of revival.

...my apologies to filthy light thief if it sounds like I'm joining the pile-up on this thread. I get the sense that you posted this because you enjoyed Leary's special, and it's possible others will. Maybe others will check out this special and hopefully enjoy it more than a jaded grump like myself. Heck, I thought Clinton was going to win the election by five points, so by all means feel free to disregard my opinion if you wish. Merry F***** Christmas to you all :)

I have not seen this, but Leary's The Ref is on always on my Christmas movie rotation.

Total number of fucks Denis Leary gives about your opinion: Zero.

Meh, it's just a thing of interest I found. I was amused about how very dated it felt, and I liked something to counter the repeated Top 40 Christmas Carols I've heard in the past few days (and I wanted to jump in the Christmas themed post party that was on the front page at the time).
