The Joy of Vibrating

Ever since we got electrical power, there have been weight-loss gadgets that depend on vibration. They don't work; you can't vibrate fat away. That doesn't mean these gadgets can't be fun. Two little boys found one out for demonstration in a store and decided to try it out.

I guess my dad stayed in some sketch places when he worked for the government. Mom would bring us deep South and we'd always wind up in these motels with a placard between the beds promising "Magic Fingers."

I had dimes and this thing took quarters. Dad's telling my mom about getting run off the road and shot at and I'm stealing a quarter while he shows mom bullet holes in the Ambassador.

My sister immediately saw what I was up to and suggested we be ill so they'd leave us alone and go eat. Lunch was awful. This was a huge sacrifice.

What I think I know now is that they really jumped at the opportunity to eat without us. Different era, the only helicopters were the ones with my dad's friends in them being shot down on the news. People left their kids.

So they went and I dropped the quarter somewhere behind the bed. No problem. Sister is small. She starts throwing things out from under there. I didn't know what a condom was but I did know that the bunny was really weird.

It was a perfectly molded foam bunny covered in tan felt. The felt was coming off its scalp and you could see this was no stuffed animal. This would have been a horrific below the bed find at any age but at 6 and 3 it was more than we could deal with. We'd stuck long pins through beads into that kind of foam to make ornaments for the tree. This was not right.

"I don't think it's a toy." No, I don't think so. You're dirty. You need to go fix that before they get back. "But the fingers?!" I'll find the quarter.

I did not want to go under that bed. This was one of the things I had a younger sibling for. An 11 lbs dog had demonstrated that a bookcase full could be wedged out of a doorway so I got between the wall and the headboard and expanded and I found the quarter.

Sis could set up a shower and just stand there. I'd asked for a brother but she was bright and I dealt and it it was normal but not quite for our parents to open the door and find that we were having the "Magic Fingers" experience and she was wet and in her pajamas and the bed was off the wall.

I have seen some vibrating things that look like you could lose a lot of weight using them.
However, I'm on my work computer, so I can't go to those sites to link to them.

That's not a weight loss gadget, it's a machine for improving bone density.

We had a puppy and if we left the house we'd leave her in the bathroom with the tile floor. Closing the door just didn't seem right so my dad would push this low bookcase that had the entire 11th Encyclopædia Britannica set across the doorway. The dog could move the bookcase. It made a huge impression on little me about what I might be able to physically do.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what it really was?

Perfect use of the internet: video of cute kid laughing hysterically at something completely ridiculous, which then makes me laugh hysterically. This is as good as squeaky shoes girl, or Sheltie puppy baby.

The only conclusion I could come to was that it was real dead bunny rabbit.
