WAKE ME MAYBE BECAUSE I'VE MADE MISTAKES AND I'M AN ALL STAR

The best thing you've heard all year | In which a techno-alchemist creates musical gold. The ingredients: equal parts this and this with a dash of this; mix well and serve over a tasty beat. EUREKA!

This did little for me, but if CRJ wants to go through a weird pop goth phase I'm down for at least one album.

The ubiquity of "All Star" is rapidly eclipsing the Rick Roll... I wonder if Neil Cicierega is beginning to regret his "Mouth Sounds" project, because humanity was never prepared for this much Smashmouth.

Linkin Bark might be what the song deserves, but it's not what the world deserves.

This resurgence of Smash Mouth's All Star is really interesting.
I wonder whether it's truely Neil Cicierega's fault because it feels like this particular song was always at arm's reach with regards to Internet culture.

Whether Neil foisted Smash Mouth on us or merely stood on the rocky shore where the wave of Smash Mouth was already bound to break we may never know, but we can say with certainty that however he found himself there, he is the one who stood up, Smash Mouth in hands, and raised it knowingly to the sun and to the assembled servants of the animal kingdom and said "here is your King" and then mixed in some Elton John just to secure the pivot in this metaphor.

I'd wager that the resurgence of this song is due mainly to the coming of age of millennials who grew up watching Shrek and, after enjoying the song unironically during those formative years, are finally coming to the realization that it was overproduced pap; ergo, rampant meme-ification.

The mashup has become the High Fructose Corn Syrup of music. Just all the catchy parts, devoid of whatever shreds of personality were in the originals.

Nah, it's like most music. Most of it sucks, some of it's fine, occasionally it's awesome.

My favorite mashup is also my favorite song. I think the elements of both songs compliment and add to eachother. And I just LOVE the simple guitar riff that carries the whole thing.

There is a weird hollowing on some of Amy Lee's higher notes, though. I don't know if that's an artifact of the mixing or just a beat/pitches mismatch.
