The Design & Tech students of Adam's Grammar School in Shropshire, UK built a race bike from scratch and then watched as it was raced in a criterion.

A crit with "Ass Savers" as a major sponsor, apparently.

Also, "Grammer School" has a significant different meaning in the UK. I went in expecting to see a bunch 9 year olds doing some TIG welding.

A grammar school is one that admits pupils based on performance in a test normally taken around age 11.

The current Conservative government want to expand the academically selective education system in the UK, which is quite controversial as most evidence shows they have a negative impact on social mobility.

A puff piece that has filled me full of fluff! Loved it. Also love that a discussion of anything related to the UK must first must address the differences with the colonies and then dispense with some related politics.

Most evidence actualy showed it had little effect on social mobility. The trend is back towards "streaming" which even went on in other secondary schools. It has been recognised that society as a whole benefits from not holding back brighter pupils just because the less able don't want to learn.

In school streaming is fine. Selective schools not fine.

This is a derail from the excellent post about the race bike though.

That's very cool! I would have killed to do something like this when I was in school.
(I do have to point out though, that "crit" is short for "criterium.")
