Cats take dogs' beds whenever they wish [music and outraged woofing]. It's so widespread that there's a subreddit devoted to it. (via HuffPo)

One thousand favorites to you, Johnny. I'm coming back to this many times. It's a visual anti-depressant. Thanks.

I really dont like cats. If i wanted to live with assholes id get roomates, and at least my monthly housing would be cheaper.

What an excellent post.

1) I love the happy endings at the end
2) The makers of this supercut sourced all the videos they used, which seems remarkable.

I straight up giggled/cackled for the first two minutes! And then the end was great again. But yeah, poor kitties!

INJUSTICE

The best thing is that not only do my cats persistently steal my dog's beds, but the dog seems to believe that she fits in the cat baskets. (She does not.) So I suppose it all evens out as long as the cats understand that the dog's crate is off limits.

That being said, the dog also is known to encourage the cats to swat at her so she can have butt scritches when humans won't pay up, and I'm pretty sure that her response to a cat in her bed if she wanted to be there would be to sit on the cat. (Judging, anyway, from her reaction when she wants to be in the lap of a human who is already being occupied by one to three adult cats, which is to attempt to sit on the human and ignore the cats' presence entirely.) Only our weirdo tomcat is allowed to snuggle with her, apparently.

The thing is, cats really like large beds where they can stretch out and have a decent view in several directions (in case predators come). Those tiny cozy cat beds are usually most attractive to a) kittens and b) cold cats.

That doesn't explain why, when given the opportunity to sleep on the other 3/4 of the queen bed, my cat always chooses to perch on my side.

Similar to how we have 15 upholstered surfaces for the cat to lie on at any given moment, and she always wants to sleep on the clothes I have just layed out for myself to wear.

"I just want to live my life and sleep in my bed! I'm not asking for much!"

I narrated for the dogs throughout my whole first watch.

Also my second and third.

My dog and the cat have finally reached a truce. They will both lay on the dog bed in front of the fireplace but only if the cat doesn't touch him. The instant the cat gets a little too snuggly my dog gets up in a huff.

Just buy the poor cats their own enormous beds too.

That's not how that works.

Buy anything for a cat and they shun it. They will sleep in the box, wear the bag, and play with the receipt. They will. It acknowledge your gift.

It is one of their most sacred commandments.

the dog also is known to encourage the cats to swat at her so she can have butt scritches when humans won't pay up

When the kittens were kittens, they loved playing around (and sometimes on) my big gentle aussie. Sometimes, the kittens would use their claws the way kittens do and the dog would put out this loud half-whine, half-bark. That would get the kittens reprimanded and the dog cuddled.

Kittens grew into cats, cause much less havoc for the dog. But I still hear the half-whine, half-bark daily. Almost every time, it's because the cat is walking within 3 feet of the dog, or is sleeping on the foot of her bed. Dog looks pointedly at the cat, and then looks pointedly at me. I'd say it's surprising my dog resorts to blatant falsehoods: accusing the cats of causing her physical pain, but this is far from the first time I've caught her lying.

The other dog, a newfie, believes in a strong code of ethics and manners. If a cat has claimed a bed, the dog will gingerly navigate around the cat to find a bed of her own. If the newfie is already in a bed, she will bark and scare away any cat who rudely tries to share the space, but she'll let them walk over the bed as long as they're going somewhere else. Dog's gotta live by a code and this is hers.

Missing from the collection is footage of the utterly horrified-prisoner look of the dog who has been napping on his bed in his crate - only to awaken to find the cat has crept in at the front and "fallen asleep" - blocking his exit.

The dogs enable the kitty takeovers by giving in and sleeping in the cat's bed. I approve because it's frickin adorable watching a big dog smoosh up into a little bed while kitty watches from the huge dog bed, but it's going to keep happening unless the dog puts a paw down. Dogs are too nice.

Thank you Johnny, I came hoping to see one of your posts and I was happily rewarded.

My wife got a new chair for Christmas. The cat really likes it. He refuses to get out of it. Last night she picked him up out it and he raced and jumped back in it and laid down before she could sit down. Repeat process... she sat down quickly and the cat sat down and looked very upset, meowing at her while she directs him away... The cat then stopped wandered away and then complained to me that she was sitting in her chair...

Oh! Ironic introspection... to a certain extent whenever the cat is sitting on our things and refusing to get up - including in Mrs. Nanukthedog's chair... the cat belongs in this video!

...come to think of it, he really does like to sun himself on our bed in the summer and regularly refuses to willingly get out of it while we change the sheets...

Oh man, we're part of an internet meme!

This is exactly what Beatrix T. Cattenborough (standard disclaimer: yes, she will accept your friend request) does to Mrs. slkinsey. Every night Beatrix gradually takes more and more of Mrs. slkinsey's pillow so that, by morning, Mrs. slkinsey's head is on the mattress and the cat has the pillow all to herself.

I was offended by the dog-centric framing - those are not "dogs' beds". they are clearly "cats' beds" and the dogs should be grateful they get to lie down there occasionally.

- The cat snuggles into your side of the bed because she likes warmth.

- She gets on top of the laundry, or onto the dog bed you just brought home, because she likes clean things.

You like those things too. Don't be so surprised. Cats just prioritize those things much higher than dogs.

The humans generally spend our sitting down time at my house in the office or the family room. If my husband and I are sitting at the kitchen table for anything other than meals (going through the mail, etc.), the dog will pace nervously because he NEEDS to be in the room with us but there's nothing soft and comfy to lie down on. So we bring in his bed (from his crate) and he's happy. But if he leaves the bed for even a second, Chloe (AKA Big Fats) bogarts it and he just looks SO WOUNDED. She actually loves him but because she swatted at him when he joined the family (6 years ago...), he's terrified of her.

It's pathetic. And hilarious.

Further proof that my animals are the oddest creatures. When they shared a house, the dog had a big cosy bed in the corner, and the cat had a perch that gave her a great view of the neighborhood. Whenever he got the chance my 15 year old mutt would clamber onto furniture and up into the cat perch so he could bark at the paperboy from his (stolen) lofty throne. The cat would growl at him and he'd slink down.

Ha, yeah, the reason the dogs are driven from their beds is because cats will bite and scratch them and nobody will complain. If the dog injures the cat it gets euthanized.

My cats always slept on the dogs. Schiller, a half Siamese black cat, had a peculiar and sweet bond with Murphy, a Yellow Lab/Aussie mix.

Murphy had epilepsy and spent a lot of time at the vet. Schiller would cuddle him after every visit, and come to get us if Murph was seizing.
