National treasure and erstwhile Madden-breaker Jon Bois dives deep into the (figuratively and literally) blurry history of Troy State's record-shattering 258-141 victory against DeVry University's basketball team. Except it was actually...253? But DeVry really did have a basketball team. Sometimes. Depending. It's complicated.

For those who might not be familiar, Jon Bois created the hilarious Breaking Madden series, where he tweaks the settings on the Madden NFL football game to extremes until weird things happen in the simulator's animations, and adds wry comments.

The star player he created is Clarence Beeftank, a 400 pound, 5 foot tall running back with maximum abilities in many settings and minimum skills in others (such as dodging people). He's, um, hard to stop. In another video, Bois grew him up to 7 feet (and just as thick) to demolish the Cowboys. Good times.

That was awesome. I loved it.

I would have loved it twice as much if it were half as long, but still.

I'm not a sports guy, but that was amazing. It's not every day you witness such a complete nerdgasm as this.

This reminds me a lot of What the heck is a catch in the NFL, anyway? An explainer where Jon takes the concept of "climbing into its own ass" and pushes it all the way through back into brilliance. How often is it that you see something that feels both lovingly crafted and completely phoned in?

Anyway, Jon is at his best when he is telling an unbelievable story with a tone that says "I can't believe this shit either and I spent months researching it"

And, as an art guy, I loved the Breugel tie-in.

I wonder if anybody on the tubes has posted a video of their big blowout against Homestar's Knees Tech

More importantly, though, is it "Jon Boys" or "Jon Bwah"

I think we may have overlooked the truly important discovery of this madness: the first dab.

"Year after year, I'm feeding the NBA the same draft class file. Nothing but short, talentless weaklings, for years. And years. And years, until they are all that's left."

And perhaps the best moment in this for me - I was watching the video at the end of the article about the death of the NBA while, somehow unbeknownst to me, I had the video from the post also playing in another tab. So I had video of these goofy basketball players missing shots and passes and everything while I also had the audio of the two commentators from the Troy-Devry game:

"Well, I hope people understood what they saw here today."

"I'm not sure I know what I saw here today."

That'll do, Jon. That'll do.

I couldn't have been more pleased to see Spencer Hall, patron saint of college sports writers, involved in verifying The First Dab.

I didn't want to spoil it and/or I am using mention of that as evidence of having actually endured the whole thing.

I sure hope this isn't the sort of secret knowledge that causes beings from beyond human understanding to become aware of your existence.

He has good takes on sport videogames.

Oh man, how have I never seen this before? Tears are streaming down my face from laughing so hard.

To add to the surrealism, there are some real weird libertarian comments at the bottom.

Excuse me while I mentally add that article's concern about video game Barack Obama continuing on as President past term limits to the list of things that seem quaint now in 2017.

This was riveting and I love how the scoreboard folks freak out because nobody ever considered designing for a score that high.

If I taught design or programming I would force the class to watch this to illustrate why it's good to question assumptions! (Also it's hilarious and I love the way he puts all these together. The Chiefs video is one of my favorites.)

Is there any other kind of libertarian comment?
