Yo La Tengo WFMU All-Request Marathon TODAY

Yo La Tengo are once again playing requests for pledges beginning at 3pm US EDT TODAY (Sat March 18) on WFMU. Every year, Yo La Tengo perform requests live on-air in exchange for pledges, to help keep freeform noncommercial radio station WFMU (91.1 FM in Jersey City, NJ) on the air. This year is no exception. They will begin playing at 3pm US EDT today, and will be playing listener requests for several more hours.

This year's drive is important, since they lost an important fundraising bloc. The drive-time morning program decided to go all digital and left the station (very amicably).

They only run their pledge drive once a year, and it turns out internet streaming is a significant cost center for them. So listen up and pony up!

The one where they sang verses of other songs (including "I See A Darkness", "Baby's on Fire", and "Cortez the Killer" to the tune of "We Didn't Start the Fire" remains one of my favourite things.
