Bagoas - awesome (male) tribal fusion bellydancer

Bagoas dances with sinuous and rhythmic beauty and plenty of playfulness. Not typical bellydance/doumbek music most of the time, either. Art of the Belly solo - wow, I say - and a fab duet, Oriental Job and an early (2011) performance at Rakkasah East, with heavy metal cello. Also, a very playful Ya Halla Y'all , with the songs Mr. Sandman and Sheik of Araby. He has more vids, but these are some of the high spots. His FB fanpage, linked from his website, will give you his real name. Originally from Baltimore, he seems to be located in Seattle now.

I'm guessing the name is after this Bagoas, memorably fictionalised by Mary Renault in The Persian Boy, one of her excellent books about Alexander.

Just what I thought! As a beginning belly-dancer, I'm very impressed, as a Mary Renault devotee I am squeeing my ass off and starting a new fanfic

My bellydance teacher emphasizes that the arms are the most important thing in bellydance. The first video really shows that - his arm flow is fantastic.

Kamrah is a trans masculine bellydancer based in Chicago, who is very good, and does a lot of teaching , workshops, and performances all over.

(we should have a mefite hafla meetup!)

Here's one at Fells Pt Maryland, starts about 45s in, but 1:40 some bizarre music starts and amazingly he dances to it. Anyone know what kind of music this is? Doesn't say in the vid notes.

Industrial?

Wow, Industrial. I had to google that and the only group on this list whose music I actually know is #1, but I doubt they are much like the others. Odd history that group has. Having listened to nos. 2 and 3 now, I think you might be right about that category. Thanks. Not something I would have ever listened to, and it still blows my mind someone can dance to it. I feel like a square now, but that's okay.

I took a shimmy workshop taught by Kamrah today. A++++++ would go again, but holy bejeezus did they work the heck out of us. By the end, I was barely able to stand , let alone shimmy.
