Voice transcription by saxophone and drums

A classic scene from Willy Wonka as performed by Gene Wilder, drums, and saxophone. There's a growing series of these, including takes on the USAs recent popular vote loser and random farm animals.

There is some sort of Jazz version of Poe's Law at work here.

I can't figure out why this is so amazing, BUT IT IS.

Loved the Wonka one. Not going to listen to the second one, just because. The farm animals one didn't really do it for me, as it was missing both the drums and Gene Wilder.

I guess what I'm saying is that everything is better with drums and Gene Wilder.

I listened to the second one. Atom Eyes was right. Don't.

(I should have said A classic, since on review I realized it's not sax-based like my memory told me it was)

If voice transcription on guitar is your thing, Jack Weir posts some great work:

Yeah, seriously! Why the fuck would someone do something awesome and then share it?!

Which is the idea behind Different Trains and various kinds of tight scat going back well beyond my shaky jazz knowledge. Reckon.

Is English a tonal language? Mmmm-may-beee.

A lecture on Som da aura (Richard Boukas talks about hermeto Pascoal, and more specifically about a number of pieces featuring on the Festa dos deuses album).

It's odd that it seems like the voice seem autotuned once there's backing "music". But I don't think it is. usually autotuning is less subtle.

You can see David Dockery's original Willy Wonka video with just drums. Although, I prefer his version of the Pepe Silvia scene from It's Always Sunny. Doing it with just rhythm seems somehow so much more challenging to me. (And I think there's variance in how much it feels like it's working.)

I loooove this trend vs. just autotuning human speech into song. Cooler, more subtle effect.

Super fun. Parts of it are certainly awkward, but there's a big chunk in the middle that sounds straight out of Rock Island, the opening number from The Music Man.

Thank you. No, really, thank you. It's been a shitty day, and this was a perfect pick-me-up. Loved the Wonka trans-saxification.

I looooove this! Like an inverse Lambert, Hendrix and Ross.

The thing that sticks with me is the natural rhythmic quality in the speech this demonstrates. Language and music are so intertwined. This first video is illustrative. There is a very fast underlying pulse in the speech that the drummer picks up and locks into. Fascinating.

These are brilliant! As something of the reversal of the concept, this too is brilliant: Jazz Dispute

Awesome is a subjective term here. It's cool but I don't think it's "awesome".
