Let it snow, let it snow...

Finnish spring weather has been exceptionally miserable and cold this year. It's getting so unbelievable that even weather forecasters are having trouble keeping a straight face while delivering the bad news. Here's Pekka Pouta trying to get through his morning forecast.

Hilarious.

Where my brother lives in Sundsvall (northern Sweden), they had snow the other day. Not too much, less than an inch. A client was visiting from Chile at the time, and he - having grown up in the desert of northern Chile - thought it was all just "a little bit too exotic" for him. That made me laugh so hard.

Fun Trivia Time: his last name "Pouta" (not a common one) literally translates to "fair weather". Nomen est omen, etc.

fuck this weather so hard though

It was snowing in Stockholm a few days ago. So much for spring.

Yesterday in Helsinki I counted eight different kinds of frozen precipitation in an afternoon: regular snow, huge snowflakes, small hail, large hail, half-melted hail, sleet, tiny snowflakes and half-melted snow.

Like wait a fucking second, was George R. R. Martin actually right about this whole years-long summer/winter thing? Weather patterns are getting stuck, because as a study in Geophysical Research Letters claimed, arctic amplification has slowed Rossby waves and caused persistence of weather patterns. including droughts, flooding, cold spells, and heat waves.

That's so weird. Global warming might be making the Earth's weather... slower.
