And their little dog, too

A very special story about Todd and his Grandmother. This is a response to a writing prompt written by Peccolia on her tumblr eatbreathewrite, and then added to by others, as they started to break the plot for six seasons and a movie.

At first I was 100 years old and said, "Bah! It's all one big image? Bah." And then I read it anyway because get with the program, Kim, this is 2017. I'm glad I did. It's so warm and made me miss my grandmother.

Thank you for posting this!

And here I go crying on the train!

He's a good grandson, Brad.

There's no real character development. Todd starts out as a demon with a heart of gold which causes him to stay. There's really nowhere to go from there. I mean, maybe a couple of (13- episode) seasons of typical sitcom goofs, but it gets very tired well before 6 seasons. For staying power, the demon has to be truly evil to start, staying around to take souls and sow grief and chaos. Todd's transformation has to happen gradually and reasonably, like Adventure Time's Ice King.

Please tell me there was an episode where Todd is struck temporarily blind, and one where he has to land an airplane, and one where he's stuck on an elevator with a woman in labor.

I would watch this. And I don't watch much.

right but what if he looks around the pissant rust belt place that she lives and finds out he can't because it's already there? Like Crowley in Good Omens? I have a weakness for stories about demons who aren't as good at hell as humans are.

Oh, yes. He starts out evil. But Anette thinks he's being a surly teenager and puts him in his place. The summoning spell protects her from harm. He has to do her bidding. He decides to bide his time and wait for an opportunity.

Of course, once he spends time with her and sees how lonely and poor she is, he can't bear it. He has to make her life better. He tells himself that all in good time eventually he will take her soul, but he never actually gets around to it.

The show really picks up about mid-run, when they introduce the MLM-guru-turned-megachurch-pastor-turned-MLM-guru-again who's preparing for a run for public office, and we find out what the real evil is. Many say "too easy of a target"; I say "too real."

COLD OPEN on Annette's walk in freezer. TODD is rummaging hurriedly through some plastic bins and freezer-burned packages. He cocks an eye at what is obviously a human leg wrapped in stained butcher paper, but tosses it aside.

TODD: [shivering for warmth and muttering under his breath] I told her we had that rump roast last week, but here I am, doing her bidding.

He glances over his shoulder to make sure the door is still open behind him before getting back to the search.

ANNETTE: [out of nowhere, shocking TODD] Now Toddy! How many times do I have to tell you to shut the door to the freezer! That's my electric bill, you know.

TODD: Not when I'm IN the freezer, Grandma. There's no handle on this side of the --

Wide-angle shot of the two of them framing the now shut door.

TODD: [resigned] -- door.

ANNETTE: [realizes what she has done] Oh, fiddlesticks! What have I done?

TODD: [comforting] Don't worry, Grandma. I think I can get it open. Just... just look for that rump roast while I figure it out [he clearly has a plan that he is keeping secret from her].

ANNETTE [buries her head in a large bin]: I just saw it the other day...

EXTERIOR of freezer door. Suddenly the door bursts off its hinges, flying straight past the camera, a roiling gout of black flame following it out of the now gaping hole in the wall of the freezer.

This speaks to a sort of theme I've discovered that permeates my life.. and who's cutting fucking onions in here!?!?!

I think I actually love this.

Stuff along this vein is like 90% of why I love the show Lucifer. Like the episode in which Mazikeen, Satan's lethal enforcer and literal demon from Hell, takes her roommate's daughter Trixie trick-or-treating.
