I saw "Bob" at the radar station.
Slacking off was his occupation.
He sold me Eternal Salvation.
It's good enough for me!

My parents are big fans of folk music, and we had a record with this song on it when I was a kid. A live double-album with Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger, if I recall. My mom would always make us skip this song. Everything else on the album was fine, but this song was blasphemous, and shouldn't be listened to. One day when they were gone and I was maybe 9 or 10, I put it on just to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't understand any of it, and was sorely disappointed.

We've got bunnies wearing pancakes.
Yes our brooms do really vibrate.
Although bean plates give me headaches,
It's good enough for me!

This is quite interesting to me, where I live in Cornwall there is a lot of local cultural identity tied up on folk singing, especially in groups singing in pubs but also at other public events. Many of the songs are very easily identified as being relevant to Cornish history and identity but this song is very firmly in the standard songbook despite being much more widely known. Wikipedia says it dates from the late 19th Century and may have roots in English folk, it would be interesting to hear if there is a more developed history of the song.

KGMoney: A live double-album with Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger

I grew up with this too! I still call it the "Pete Way" when someone sings lyrics ahead of a line. Such a great album that didn't survive my transition to digital.

I heard this once and was totally charmed. Thanks for finding all the verses!

Oh, what a flashback! This is part of what I think of as 'old web' content, inextricably linked to back when I, too, hung out with the SubGs and IRC'd it up.

Folkways doesn't list that record but they have a large catalog of Pete Seeger albums, reasonably priced for CD's or
downloads.

I love Pete Seeger but the crowd clapping on the 1 and the 3 was grating.

Hey cool, that ancient purchase (my 8th of over 700 to this date), which was a replacement for my mom's original cassettes--long worn out over 20 years of summer car trips--means I can stream the album from Amazon now. I always forget that.

That's the exact album! Looking through the track listing, I can still recite the Neutron Bomb Story by heart. Real strange what my parents did and didn't have a problem with, in retrospect.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much elseietheeel! This will be a treat for my whole family. It also seems to be on Spotify, but I have no idea how to link it.
