Poet on the Shore

Poet on the Shore is an AI-empowered autonomous robot that roams on the beach. It enjoys watching the sea, listening to the sound of waves lapping on the beach, the murmurs of the winds, children’s conversing, and the incessant din of seabirds. Most of the time, it roams alone to listen and feel. Sometimes, it writes verses into the sand, and watches the waves wash them away.

I think if we put one of these on Mars and had it roam around writing about how lonely it is, it would break the Internet's collective heart.

Does this robot need friends? I would like to be its friend.

Sure, it's adorable, but think of all the poets it will put out of work

It's not AI-empowered. AI does not exist. Stop using the term AI for things that are not AI. It's all over the internet and it's driving me insane.

Or, it does exist but is too busy looking at cat pictures and videos to manifest in the physical world.

I wanted more pics and video of its poetry!

Obviously it is not my poetry monkey though

Much like "intelligence" itself, "AI" does not have a singular definition. I say this for your mental health.

I would love to see somebody develop truly autonomous beachcombing robots that would pick up trash. Would probably need to be on long spindly legs (like seabirds) instead of wheels.

Agreed on the poetry. I wanted to see more of it. (Or any, really)

OTOH, does it download pina coladas?

Don't get too emotionally involved folks. Remember what happened to the hitchhiking robot.

spudsilo: I'm thinking burrowing crabs. It's a very unforgiving environment - lots of kinetic energy, salt water, kids...

Its dream is to travel the world and write a poem about the concrete and steel trees of Singapore.

A GIF of a puppy that’s afraid of climbing down stairs breaks the Internet’s heart. The Internet’s heart is fragile, yo. Not saying that wouldn’t be a cool art project, but I think the grant pitch needs some work.

I use think this way about Ezra Pound.

I like the whole post, thanks curious nu.

Cool idea! Although it couldn't pass a Turing Test so 'Intelligence' is a stretch. But I'll be the poetry would be really interesting.

Except there's no samples of the poetry on the website page. And there's no poetry on the DesignBoom link. And it writes poetry in the sand but there's no pictures or transcriptions of the poetry, only a couple of words.

So 'E' for effort, but an 'A' for getting page hits using bullshit, because THAT'S what the world really needs more of right now. Waste of time.
