Too cute! 13/10

Aside: The "Dog chasing off Google car" photos fill me with dread - even though it looks like the dog is having lots of fun. An off-leash dog running near a car is an accident waiting to happen.

Doggo?

Has Metafilter gone this far downhill?

They're all good doggos, Bront.

Aiiiieeee, I found the pupper on Daum maps! He's on Jukdo island in South Korea, and I'm betting he's the photographer's own pup since he's goes the entire length of the (teeny-tiny) island.

To follow the path (and pretty pup) yourself on the map, click on the little camera-looking icon on the top right (above the "green light" icon) and then drag to any of the blue lines for the street view.

Also "doggo" is in the title of the linked post, so it's appropriate (sez the person who ironically said "pupper").

*gasp* I'll walk him every day!

Gah, I meant "he goes" and "unironically said pupper." I was just too excited by this virtual ball of happy doggo fluff to grammar correctly.

Also, Jukdo Island is gorgeous. I got nervous when I lost of sight of the woofer.

I occasionally like to stalk my houses (both current and past) on Google Maps, partially because I like to see what's changed since I was last in various parts of the world, and partially to see how often imagery gets updated. Since I currently live in the sticks, Google doesn't put a huge priority on keeping our imagery current, but I was happy to see that they had updated in the two years since we moved into this house, because even at low resolution, you can see the blinding white coat of our Alaskan Husky hanging out in the back yard. Cutest vague white blur ever (to me).

We're constantly congratulating our dog on his top-notch skills at being unhelpful and in the way. I think he'd get along famously with this chap.

(Unhelpful and in the way doggos are still the best doggos. Foxy Brown's slogan is that he's in 23 inconvenient locations near you.)

The title is incorrect, these photos aren't from Google, they're from Daum Maps.

The Korean government has penalized Google at least once for violating privacy with their street view drives, so Google's street view coverage in Korea is relatively threadbare. According to Wikipedia, only Seoul, Busan and national parks have been scanned, and that the last update was in 2014 -- considering the building boom that's been going on especially south of the Han River, that's made Google street view pretty useless even if it wasn't missing some major streets and most neighborhood streets.

Daum hasn't had the same hassles and their street-view coverage is terrific, to the extent of allowing you virtual access not only to many of the traditional markets but, in some cases, even going inside all the buildings and providing views of each stall. I saw a man wearing a street view camera rig on my last trip to Seoul, and it looked like both an enviable and unenviable job -- as somebody who loves taking day-long walks, I'd do it, but I'm not sure how thrilled I'd be to have no choices on where to go, and the requirements of, say, taking my time ensuring there is accurate, detailed footage of every unwashed back alley during midsummer.

Incidentally, Daum Maps can be used in most web browsers, but accessing street views requires Flash.

Maybe I'm mixed up, but I used the Daum Maps link here on my iPad, which I don't think has flash?

Yeah cool, looks like the mobile browser version doesn't require Flash any more -- that's a pretty new development. As of last winter (when I was using Daum maps for travel planning) I still could only access street view on iOS through the Daum Map app. (which is now called KakaoMap)

Browsing Daum street view on a desktop web browser still requires Flash, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's a workaround.

Some more back story on the Jukdo dog - the dog's name is Maru, and he's been living on the island since he was 2 years old. He was originally from neighboring Ulleungdo island, and the original owner gave him to the current owner, then the sole resident of Jukdo with his father, as she felt there would be more room for a large dog there. By the time the Daum roadview photographer arrived in July 2010, Maru was a 4 year-old very friendly dog, and very familiar with the island, as the owner let him roam freely when no boats were expected to arrive on the island. So when the unexpected visitor arrived, Maru decided to play tour guide.

Maru and Jukdo blew up on Korean internet due to a tweet in December 2015 - "Sometimes when I feel like taking a walk with a dog, I look for Jukdo on Daum Maps ... " This led to massive re-tweeting, blog posts, and news stories on SBS and KBS. By this time, Maru was 9 years old, his owner had married, and two cats had also joined the household. Maru is now so well-known that a simple search on 죽도 리트리버 on either Nate or Naver will turn up a ton of links, such as this one (note the pictures of the roadview photographers with their backpack-mounted cameras, which are used when driving is not practical).

By the way, Maru's owner on Jukdo was already a minor local celebrity, due to having been previously featured on a TV show episode documenting his life as a 40-something bachelor farming on the remote island with his father.
