We are still mythical

Under May / there is a gulf that separates us and it seems to gape a little wider every day. / Now watch her pray on every tragedy. / Divide divide and frenzy up the nastiness / The them and us, the human cost / the rising threat / we must be watched / clocked and kept and screamed and blocked. / If this is strength then we’re all fucked / But give them an inch and they’ll set up shop. / I want to create a truly hostile environment. / Her words, not mine.

Kate Tempest performs at Glastonbury 2017 (54min).

Tempest previ/ously.

People's Faces (starting at about 48 minutes in) is just incredible.

Also, for people that can access the bbc iplayer, there's 90-odd other glastonbury performances available for the next month or so, too.

I wish I had framed this post better. The lede doesn't do justice to the content. As dng, notes, People's Faces is heart wrenching and heart crying and heart healing all in one.

I've been aware of Kate Tempest for some time but never read / listened to / watched her.

Found myself watching that Glasto set live on TV quite by accident, stayed mesmerised for the entirety and at some point soon I want to watch it all again. It's extraordinary. And extraordinarily good. And important. And necessary.

This is what I love about Metafilter--I had not heard of this amazing young woman and now I have and my life has been enriched. Thank you!

Kate Tempest is fucking amazing. She was here in Vancouver a few months ago and the energy she created was dazzling, people hanging on every word then released by the music as if it were a cyclone passing overhead. Her project Brand New Ancients can be seen in part on Youtube, and you can also watch an hour-long performance from 2015 here.

This is the most amazing thing I never heard of - she had me crying more than once.
Thank you Thella

@dng - she played People's Faces live for the first time as an encore when I saw her (in a suitably low-ceilinged, dark warehouse venue) last year and it was one of the most moving musical experiences of my life. The whole crowd was just blown away, we all stood there looking at each other with tears in our eyes, then the applause started.

Kate Tempest's performances stun me: she appears to be possessed, channeling the words with such intensity you can't look away. She's wonderful.

The original video doesn't seem to be available anymore. People's Faces from Glastonbury 2017 is still available from here.
