Boy I-IV-V sure has a ring to it, don't it?

Music theory isn't really my area of expertise, but while I agree that the implied chords are all major, doesn't the circular pattern rock back and forth between tonic > subdominant and tonic > dominant, returning back through the subdominant at the end? So I-IV-I-V-IV-I?

Yes, that's the full pattern here. I meant The Blues in general.

It also wasn't a negative criticism. This is wonderful.

This is great. It's so uplifting, and yet: that title.

I noticed he looked towards the kids a lot. I'd like to think that's because someone asked him to keep an eye on them at the beach. They clearly are having a big time.

Pretty sure I want a giant one-string guitar now.

This is lovely.

Is there more than one instrument playing? I get that he's doing the thumps and the tinkles, but what's doing the drone?

Sorry for use of technical language

It's a huge one-string dulcimer. Does that help? The drone is the string ringing. The tinkles are the bottle fretting the note combined with the percussive sound of the stick striking the string.

The thumps are the kick-drum, so it's two instruments.

It 's not I-IV-I-V-IV-I, it's 1-2-1-3-2-1 or maybe 0-1-0-2-1-0

I stand corrected.

From the title, I was expecting some kind of weird LOLXians point and laugh, but nope, here's some cool guy playing a cool song on a cool instrument while the kids dance around. Nice!

Nice. Not a music geek (like some of y'all), but I love the use of the percussion and the percussive nature of the stringed instrument, along with the sound of his voice overlaying the rest (regardless of whether or not I understand any of it).

Plus it is really cool everyone in the video seems to be having a blast.

Wow, it's so powerful and continuous. I always imagined a dulcimer's music to be like a harp, with lots of separate notes. The string ringing sounds almost like a wind instrument, or someone's voice.

It's catchy as hell, but does anybody know what the heck he's singing about? This isn't something demonizing people with AIDS, is it?

Also, distant happy nudity it may be, but it must be pointed out that it's child nudity. It's really innocent, but still. People should know, before they click.

(Sorry, don't mean to be the pooper at this party!)

The bandcamp page linked from the video explains 'Gasper Nali plays a Babatoni - a 3 meter, one-stringed, home-made bass guitar - with an empty bottle and a stick.'

How to play the Babatoni.

Thanks for posting this Buntix: I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I was really really taken by this performance so I did some digging. Sadly, I came to find that even in Malawi they have One Hit Wonders.

More Gasper, more!!

The title track for his album is appears to be about all of Malawi going to hell for child abuse, so I'd like to know more about what Nali's deal is before getting into this other song.
