I am SO INTO THIS. The Gorn was always pretty glam with glitter disco-ball eyes, so it just feels right.

Gucci's fashion lines have been aggressively awful the last couple of years, at least as they appear on celebrities in the wild, but they look much more natural on retro aliens.

Well what's really surprising is that many of the models actually look like people (don't have an example at hand but often fashion models look not just anorexic but scary-not quite real)

Some odd choices and combinations here. The Gill-Man (Creature from the Black Lagoon) is in there, and is that T-Rex Gwangi, maybe? Don't recognize the cows & saucers scene -- appears to be videotape, not film. An early music video? Some Doctor Who ep I'm unfamiliar with (which is nearly all of them)?

Also, that's no Gorn, tho' is does look like it was shot at Vasquez Rocks.

The saucer is from Flight of the Navigator.

Often, when one catches a glimpse of a fashion runway show or the odd photo from Vogue magazine, one is moved to wonder, "At what occasion would such outlandish garments be appropriate?" I guess this is the answer.

I wasn't trying to imply that the alien here is a Gorn, but I was trying to imply that I felt the original Gorn was partial inspiration for this campaign.

If I recall my Scifi characterization, the Lost in Space suit had style that would have appealed to the original Doctor Smith.

Now if fabric technology could develop a silver jumpsuit that was stain resistant as well as comfortable, cool or warm depending, wifi/3G enhancing, odor reducing, auto-sizing, rainproof and hypoallergenic - I would happily live in a uniform single style future society.

It's a cute video, but the actual clothing didn't really strike me as all that retro-SFnal.

Also, that was a sandperson wail at the end there, slowed down, right?

I find Gucci's recent collections nothing short of wonderful, starting with the men's Spring/Summer 2016 (which debuted in the summer of 2015). Fanciful, inventive, colorful, with a mix of grandma's crochet, floral and animal patterns, ribbons, and more.

You can see designer Alessandro Michele's aesthetic on his Instagram.

The goofy foray into retro/space is an extension of this wonderfully silly and strange aesthetic. (Though the S/S 2016 men's collection is still the best, in my view.)

And I say this as someone who finds the concept of luxury abhorrent.
