No one knows what Maspeth is

I meant to include this in the body of the description but the creator of this site made a very detailed blog post about its origin and the process of making it:

Nice, tried it, did not work...

Did work actually, just cannot see the colours while painting. Nice work in progress. But I would have thought that to build a sellable community, a project needs logins. Maybe that is coming.

I accidentally scribbled all over the map and don't know how to fix it. Also, it seems like my neighborhoods don't fall into the categories available.

Barcelona, Spain, this very morning, in an area marked as "drunk English & German":

, picture 2

Not sure about the nationality, but the drunk thing is spot on.

Also, where I live (oldest quarters in downtown), it says "avoid this area" and "no locals, just tourists and pickpockets", I guess the brush is too broad in some aspects.

samelborp, it tells me "Sorry, this content isn't available at the moment"

Yeah, my city mostly just had a bunch of mean-spirited stuff about homelessness, some various racist stuff, and the word "Unicorns" written over the university, so I guess it's as good as the last couple folks who've been in there.

My suburb in Brisbane: Hookers a nd drug addicts.

I don't know if I'm more hurt that someone would say that, or that it's absolutely true.

But don't blame me. In 2012, around 50,000 people head to Fortitude Valley's clubs, pubs and restaurants each weekend night. Around 30 venues are licensed to trade until 5:00 am. If there's a festival, make that 100,000.

When you throw a giant party every weekend, of course you're going to attract some shady stuff. I'm not so hurt, more full of pity that that's all some internet rando thinks this suburb is about. I love it here, it's home. There are no noise restrictions. Every year we close the streets and put stages on them and have a dance party. There's a plaque on my street noting that this is the first place The Bee-Gees played. We have the Big Gay Day, we invented the Zombie March, our streets are marked in five languages. Our suburb is so diverse, fucking armed Border Security hang out here. Do you realise how far away Brisbane is from any border?

I could go on. 'Hookers and drug addicts', they don't know the valley. Whoever said West End is more beards than shoes is totally right though.

Apparently I live in a solid "Normies" area but the block I live on fades into "Hipsters" just south of my house.

I think that means my family is the odd one out? It's my fault, really. I have a beard and enjoy biking and craft beer, BUT I don't brew my OWN beer, my bikes have gears (gasp!), and my beard is old enough to vote. I'm hopelessly normal I guess.

My quiet residential neighborhood in Reykjavík is marked as being overrun by tourists. It also has really odd neighborhoods marked as "hipster" or "rich". I have a feeling that most people marking this map aren't actually from Reykjavík. If I understood the developer's blogpost correctly, he makes no attempt to weight input, so locals are treated equally with people who've never been to the place.

None of this is accurate and seems overrun with weird troll-y behavior.

It reminds of the judgemental maps thing that was popular a few years ago and also tended to be racist.

My neighborhood was labeled as Stepford Wives which...yeah.

Pittsburgh's is fairly accurate, but the only text on the map is Peak Pittsburgh. It just says "LETS GO PENS" (with no punctuation)

In Seattle, there are two large blobs of hipsters floating in Lake Washington.

My neighborhood in Berlin is labeled "Revenge for Mallorca". Go ahead and pillage the whole place, but leave me alone, thanks.

I know what Maspeth is. Lived there for better part of two years. Good pizza, easy access to LIE, not so much to subway. Old Italians and young Fuxianese and probably now some hipsters priced out of barely-less fashionable Queens hoods who can make the subway work with a little help from Uber (like everywhere else south of the subway and north of Brooklyn).

I drew on my town this morning from home, and went back while at work (different computer & network) and when I click 'crowd' I don't see my work from this morning :'(

I checked Oakland, saw which areas had been marked "rich" and "hipster", snorted, and closed the window.
