Mumiy Troll is a Russian rock group, founded in 1983 in Vladivostok by vocalist and songwriter Ilya Lagutenko. The literal name of the band, 'The mummies' troll', is a pun on Moomin Troll, the series of Finnish children's books by Tove Jansson.(previously) The band members call themselves “Far Eastern, evergreen romantics” .

The first Russian music video to be broadcast by MTV Russia in 1998 was Mumiy Troll's Vladivostok 2000.
Their 2006 video Strakhu Net won the Russian Flash Awards prize in the Animation category.
Their latest video, shot in the aesthetics and style of retro-fiction films, is titled Respect for Romance.

And, of course, Russia's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2001. Described by Terry Wogan, perhaps churlishly, as not quite the full shilling.

God, if I have to see yet one more track from another far Northeast Russian band with frogs jumping out of a Delorean and a lactating humpback whale on a subway...

...I will then have seen 2 videos of that.

My initial thought was this must be the return of flapjax at midnight posting because this is fucking awesome. Sadly I was wrong, but that is high praise nonetheless. I look forward to KEXP broadcasting live from Vladivostok highlighting the vibrant music scene there.

The whale is a cousin of mine and that's not lactating that he's doing.
