Not a Fish Tale, Really, It's True!

Little kid, big fish. This is no ordinary 11 year old. Chase Stokes caught the Vermont record Carp. 33.25 pounds. He fishes all his waking hours when he is not in school.

“But here is an even more interesting thing,” Good said, “All of his fishing is from the shore. People think you need a boat, but he’s doing all of this while fishing from the bank.”

Already with two sponsors, both bait shops, and his own YouTube channel, Chase credits his mom and dad for teaching him how to fish and for taking him out “so I can do it and catch a ton of fish.” He first took to fishing when he was 1½ years old. Despite his success, he remains pretty humble. “I would say that, definitely, I’m lucky most of the time, but part of it is being a good fisherman,” he said.

So I expected the youngster to tell that, when he grows up, he wants to be a professional angler, say a guy who fishes the big bass tournaments. Wrong.

“I would probably want to become a game warden, because you get to be outdoors all of the time,” Chase said.

There is not enough :3 in the world

Cute kid.
Too bad it wasn't a native salmon.

More like awesome. Carp are invasive. The more dead carp, the better.

I really did like his answer on what he wants to be. Shows that he's not just obsessed with getting big fish, he likes fishing because it's a way to enjoy being outdoors and also have a bit of a challenge occasionally.

Well, that's what I meant. Too bad he didn't catch a big native fish rather than a useless invasive (I understand they are no good to eat) carp.

But now there's one less invasive fish, and the big native fish can go on making more little fish of which hopefully marginally more will survive due to one less predator.

Holy carp that's a big fish. The bit about how he has personally registered 10% of the trophy-sized fish in the state registry... man, that was also pretty neat. The kid loves to fish.

My son was thrilled to catch (and release) a tiny bass the other day. Can't imagine what he'd do if he hooked into a monster like this one.

My brother and I got put off fishing, about this age, when we caught a fish and the hook came out its cheek and went into its eyeball.
