Nethack for the rest of us.

Nethack for the rest of us. Ok, all you Nethack purists... sit on your hands for this one. Finally someone has come out with a graphical interface for the venerable ASCII game. Isometric, "Diablo" style -- Maybe it lacks some of the charm and character of the text version. At least I can see what the damn boulder and bear trap looks like. Windows/DirectX only.

Windoes/DirectX only? Nethack Falcon's Eye comes with just about every linux distro I've ever installed.

Ah. Whoops.

XNethack isn't half-bad graphics wise. It uses tiles in place of ASCII characters. Also, Slash'em has been around for a while, with the same isometric view as Falconseye.

The funnest is probably JNethack, though, the isometric Japanese version of Nethack.

I'm not sure how much I like Falcon's Eye. I mean, it is pretty and very well implemented considering the limitations of the game, but dammit, I want to control a @! I wonder if there's a patch to convert all the game sprites to alphanumeric characters.

Didn't I tell you to sit on your hands?

Succa-That's funny when you say that...As soon as I install Linux, I remove Falcon's eye and install the latest and greatest nethack also.

Any word on a palm port? iRogue on the palm just doesn't cut it.

I do love the Falcons Eye, i always get confused by the different symbols when playing the 'classic version.

ASCII Penis Man. Flash MX required.

Also works on OS X. Lots of fun (though for some reason the last time I compiled it there must have been a switch that changed in the code, because it reverted to the text-based interface rather than the XWindows GUI).

Yummy - reminds me of Knight Lore on the old ZX Spectrum.

Just as well Monday is a public holiday.

Graphics for Nethack? That's just plain stupid!

That was very insightful, Mark. Thanks for registering your opinion.
