California Extreme is held one weekend a year. You don't have to use coins to play any of the games.
My son has been to a friend's birthday party, which included a visit to California Extreme, for two years now. He always gushes over it, so I can finally see what the excitement is all about. Next year I'm going!

There are also talks and presentations at CAX. This year some of the Midway guys had a panel and Josh Tsui gave a 10-minute preview of his Midway 1990s documentary that's nearing completion.

Last year's CAX was the first chance I'd had to go. It was *amazing*. Lots of games that I thought I was the only person to remember, like Data East's 1984 LaserDisc game "Cobra Command", were there, and a blast to play. And it turns out that I *still* remember the timing for the spinning weights room in Dragon's Lair.
I missed this year's, and I haz a sad.
