Well - by their own ideas God did create the plant... so... why wouldn't he want us to enjoy it? Same deal with that Ben Franklin quote which sez something like "Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy." -- granted the beer quote is contrived... but the bible is very clear in the creationist aspect that only god can create things (not the devil) -- so if there is a natural high (which pot certainly is) then obviously it was put there by god for our own enjoyment. At the end of the day it's all about chemicals and brain chemstry - which god most certainly holds dominion over. Now, if only He were real the Xian pot heads would be on to something...

Great post. I've sometimes wondered if the state-distrusting right-wing homeschooling segment of the culture would ever find common cause, post-Waco, with the Drug-War-As-Root-of-All-Evil movement; there are definitely affinities. Maybe this is the New Synthesis of anarcho-left and far-right everyone from Heinlein to R.A. Wilson was always predicting.

Then again, maybe I'm high...

*checks for THC in bloodstream*

Damn. Nope, just given to looney connections while stone cold sober.

To use a lame metaphor, pot just seems to be in the air lately. I was wandering around the Danbury B&N yesterday and read a couple of chapters of this book, I haven't smoked dope in almost 2 years but I started getting cottonmouth and munchies just reading. And now this post....anyone got some Funyuns?

hehehe... tried Hydro for the first time tonight... wow... smooth yet powerful stuff. once in a while its a nice experience. DnB sounds soo damn good when high. playing pool is cool while high. trying to type something irrelevant and rambling on and on such as I am doing at this moment.. is fun.. while high. :-D

I'm impressed, spidre... you have nothing other to do while high than to post to metafilter...impressive, indeed. I very much doubt that you can even talk to the opposite sex, let alone the mob that is MeFi. Perhaps you could use this time better by purchasing patchouli, showering, washing your clothes, or pretending that your life is not a complete waste of time and space.

I thought it said Christians for Cannibals, which made me think of Missionaries and Cannibals, so I was ready for either a rehash of the tedious old logic problem or a rehash of the old missionaries-in-a-cauldron stories, but instead it's in re hash and crispy Christians.

In any case, these sound like just another form of wacky Christianity. They still proclaim the "inerrancy of the Bible" and so on, but these ones do it for drugs instead of social power or whatever.

Say, Trent, weren't you the guy posting to metafilter the day after you said your father died in the WTC attack? So what's jammed up your tight ass now?

I have never understood those that are hostile towards an individual for no apparent reason but for their own amusement. I am not going to make assumptions and try to pretend I know you, so I will say nothing in that respect. You apparently haven't learned yet, that when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. It's ironic... it must have taken a considerable amount of time for you to conjure up that statement, and yet you speak of wasting time and space. And you dare to make a comment on the opposite sex? That's really pathetic. I have no more words. Apparently idiocy is more prevalent in the world than I first thought...

I certainly have nothing against smoking pot, but that's just a dumb argument. God also made that cliff over there, but that doesn't mean he wants us to jump off it.

god made OS-free computers for sam walton to sell but that doesn't mean you should buy his mom.

Well, not all of us, anyway.

Hey, get me high enough and I will fly off that cliff, jumping is for the depressed sober/medicated types...

1 Corinthians 6
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Ooh how could I forget:

1 Peter 2:17
Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

Peace out.

Pinto, it is beyond belief. Read the Reggae on the River 'experiences' to get a feel for something hard to describe; Imagine camping out at a nonstop party with thousands of mellow people in a country fair kind of atmosphere with lots of live music from world-class musicians at one of the most beautiful places on the planet, the Redwoods. It's something that you have to plan ahead at least a year for tickets and logistics. 2003 is just around the corner!

I have friends and co-workers who attend Reggae on the River each and every year. Sure, the setting is beautiful. But MAN, the cloud of B.O. hovering over the Eel river valley is SO powerful that it is "beyond belief". I'll pass.
