“We talk in our heads”

Krista and Tatiana Hogan (previously) share a skull, a thalamus, a conciousness, a tiny dog, and, recently, a landmark birthday (video is canada-locked. workarounds welcome)

Krista and Tatiana have been previously featured by the CBC.

Craniopagus twins are very rare, with those sharing brain tissue rarer still. The Hogan twins appear to be entirely unique among humans in their possession of a bridged thalamus and shared conciousness.

It’s worth checking out. They can see through each other’s eyes and control 3/4 of each other’s limbs.

Yea, so, anyone have a workaround for the Canada-locked videos?

That was pretty amazing, I had forgotten about them. I am really disappointed in how little financial support they seem to get from the province. I can see their extended family is really supportive, and the school/medical community, but there doesn’t seem to be wider community support for them in Vernon? It was a really sweet documentary though - their mum and grandparents (and older sister!) are doing a fantastic job under some incredibly challenging circumstances.

Looks like the Canada-locking is in the browser, not the video server. I was able to download with youtube-dl --no-check-certificate http://www.cbc.ca/cbcdocspov/episodes/inseparable and presumably other GUI-er video downloaders will also work.

Oh wait never mind that doesn't work. I only got the associated videos embedded further down in that page, not the main content. :(

Aaand again, it does work if I point youtube-dl directly at the embedded video rather than the main page. This worked for me to download "Inseparable - 10 Years Joined at the Head-38e815a-00cf77cb25c.f6525.mp4" from a non-Canada location while the web page says "Episode available within Canada only.".

I have been following this case for a number of years and it's frustrating that the video isn't available outside Canada. If someone could upload it onto youtube I'd appreciate it.

It sounds like the big new information is that they can talk to each other using inner speech. This was hinted in the earlier video but if the twins report it now that's important. It has potential implications for whether we have direct introspective access to our own thoughts or whether we talk to ourselves and then listen to ourselves talking. (I'd like to know if Krista can keep thoughts private from Tatiana).

But for me the really crucial question is whether they ever truly jointly experience anything, as opposed to replicating experiences from one to the other. For instance, when Tatiana looks through Krista's eyes- is there exactly one visual experience, or two there? It's actually a philosophical challenge to even devise ways to prove it one way or the other. I'm planning to write an article on it.

This will be on TV (CBC) tonight. It might be available more widely afterward.

I'm in the US and was able to watch the video using an Opera browser plus (free) VPN plug-in. Once the VPN is activated, click on the blue VPN icon/badge in the browser's address bar and select Canada as the virtual location.
