As a teenager my boyfriend theorized that Goku concluding every fight by getting swoll, changing his hair color to blonde and having his clothes rip from his body represented the secret of his power being that Super Saiyans were West Hollywood gay.

I guess no one can help but view media through the lens of their own experience.
