Well, how did you think they mixed the dialogue for the shows? ADR? No, it's patented Groening guitar dubbing all the way.

It seems that this particular bit of The Simpsons has become entrenched in the brains of many folks of A Certain Age, and it has ended up spilling out of their minds onto YouTube as a meme, albeit a not-very-big deal one. Consequently, with tiny bit of searching you can end up at “Unforgettable Luncheon Montage”, or “Steamed hams scene played forward but their lines are reversed”, or an MS Paint Version, or recut as if it were a silent film, or “Steamed Hams, but the dialogue is replaced with Movie/Television Clips”. (That last one is kind of impressive, and I’d be curious to know if the process was automated.) There are a *lot* of weird *Simpsons* things out on YouTube, many of which fit the conventional modes for these memes. (e.g. more stuff - “Now Do Classical Gas”, longer stuff, sped up stuff, sped up on a keyword, etc.) This one seemed a bit older, however.

Per this video from expnand banana, this version comes from “An OC shitpost from the Guitar Hero community for Simpson's Shitposting”, which raises many questions. However, it seems a bit more original than a lot of the more expected reworkings, so it seemed worth mentioning. It’s a kind of folk homage, and a way to re-enact something even if you’re not great at acting.

I'd seen the Guitar Hero one a few days ago (I think from waxy tweeting about it) and it's delightful.

But beyond just that one video, I love falling down the well on one of these after it's been developed to hell and back already. Just got some stupid, stupid laughs out of Steamed hams scene played forward but their lines are reversed, highly recommended.

It's perhaps also an homage to the popularity of 'zappafied' videos among some guitarists

Also very here for Steamed Hams 10 times, sync point when Chalmers says "Aurora Borealis", which is too high-concept for its own good and gives up the gag in the title but manages to be incredibly satisfying anyway.

No, I’d say that video is exactly the right amount of high concept, and everything of import should be conveyed in that manner in the future.

My niece refuses to watch any TV that isn’t played as ten almost-simultaneous instances syncing at a point about 70% of the way through. I guess it’s the new Snapchat filter? Millenials, honestly.

A classic, if anyone is vaguely familiar with Argentinian Cussing™

Edit: And another one, just for good measure.

Red Symons takes a somewhat more straitjacketed approach to the found videos.

and omg this is not so much a rabbit hole as a fucking warren

People are weird; the internet is so weird. I think that watching every cultural touchstone get ground up and spit out by itself is one of the strangest parts of aging.

That made me sad. I lost my USB Guitar Hero controller while it was in storage at my girlfriend's house (house fire) and all the replacement controllers I can find on places like eBay are INSANELY expensive. Still have the game, but chilling out to Surrender just ISN'T the same on the keyboard.

This really felt more like a piano accompaniment to Steamed Hams, not an arrangement. I feel like, if it was an arrangement, you'd ... be able to tell it was Steamed Hams just by listening to it, without the clip playing? Since you can download it and listen to it by itself and it really just doesn't sound like it, but playing with the clip it fits perfectly.

The piano accompaniment reminded me of the drum accompaniments by David Dockery.

“An OC shitpost from the Guitar Hero community for Simpson's Shitposting”, which raises many questions

One of the few things I use Facebook for anymore is to follow one such shitposting group. Why it's suddenly become a thing again was the advent of Frinkiac (as seen previously on Mefi) which now provides anyone who can open MS Paint with a rich seam for re-editing, recontextualizing, and generally using as reaction images.

Truly, it is a golden age.

This reminded me of a post I saw a while back "Steamed Hams is the Greatest Comedy Scene Ever" that goes into the comedic writing and timing aspects of why the skit works so well as both a parody of a classic straight-man / wacky character combination that works fully as an example of the thing it's parodying.

The exchange about aurora borealis is great, because everything that makes it such an implausible lie also makes it so remarkable that you would want to see it.
