Want to spend a lot of money before Christmas? No need to thank me!
I was in a bookstore today, a Barnes and Noble, which I normally shun, but I needed that revived print edition OMNI magazine (I gotta have one more hit of that late 70's futuro-optimism), and I also had to make a saving throw against buying all kinds of wonderful looking titles.

Pro tip: go back and look at the 2016 list, and then go to the library and check out the books that you'd have had to buy a year ago. (Note: I am not really a pro.)

I was about to rage on that “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” wasn’t on any of these lists but then realized it only won awards this year. It was published last year.
Still, meh on some of the kids’ fiction choices. A pox on your discount section, says a dad campaigning for a better evening storytime.

Nope.
It is November. There is a whole month of 2017 left and you can do a lot of reading in twelve months, you never know what gem you might stumble over. Best of belong to January

Awesome. I'm a bit behind on my budget in some of these areas, these lists will be time-consuming but helpful!
Thirding the recommendation to visit your local library. Maybe also send them the url in case they are having budget surplus issues too!

This is awesome—and super helpful for a thing I do, so thank you to smoke and kickerofeleves.
pracowity, the thing I do is collaborate to assemble a list of interesting nonfiction books to read (all ages so it’s a long list!). It’s a pretty eclectic collection of titles, but I can personally recommend all the adult ones. I believe this year’s list comes out on Friday, so I’ll link to it if so.

I will reiterate that it was not technically published this year, but “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” is nigh on perfect and won the Newberry this year, so I will call it close enough.
I finished reading it to my family last night and basically had to hang on tight to keep from ugly-crying through the last four or five chapters.
I am also reading “Reincarnation Blues”, and I’m only about 175 pages in and adore it.

anthill, I usually recommend Powell’s as my indie of choice but of course they are bookstore plus website, not just a website.
And, belatedly: the Topaz Nonfiction list [pdf]. Covers all ages through a huge variety of books, some of which I’m proud to have had a hand in championing.

I finished “Reincarnation Blues.” That book is straight up delightful. Gorgeous.
