Now on the lookout for shucky beans. Thanks!

Before I read the article, I thought: beans and cornbread. Poke salit in the spring, blackberries in the summer. At least when I grew up. Now it's fast food burgers and Mountain Dew. Read the article. I was right.

Awesome post! This Bee Wilson article on clean eating was fantastic. I struggled with orthorexia for a long time and still have disordered eating patterns based on looking at food as clean or not clean even though I know it's harmful. I hope Bee Wilson expands the article into a book, she's a lot of fun to read and I enjoyed her book First Bite a lot.

MIss Cellania, you left out the taters (and so did they). Bean and taters. With cornbread.

How about Michael Twitty's The Cooking Gene: A Journey through African American Culinary History in the Old South. He is a good historian!
