Visions of a world where every neighbor is a friend

This is an album I listen during every New Year's season because it has a bittersweet New Years song on it, and I love those. It's also about the pressures of fame and a document about couples breaking up. It's heartbreaking and beautiful and bittersweet and ABBA only did one more (very surreal) album. it's worth a listen. ABBA -- 1980 -- Super Trouper [YouTube playlist, ~40 min]: Side 1 [22m30s] -- Super Trouper; The Winner Takes It All; On And On And On; Andante, Andante; Me And I posted by hippybear (16 comments total) 24 users marked this as a favorite

So many fan collage videos, I'm so sorry not sorry! Yes sorry, no, wait, not not sorry. Wait, what?

Bonus Tracks: Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight), Elaine, Put On Your White Sombrero, Andante Andante (Spanish Version), Felicidad

My first tapes when I was a yoof in the 70's were both ABBA. Played the heck out of them.

One of the more amusing Flying Nun comps was Abbasolutely - great fun.

Who can say what we’ll find
What lies waiting down the line
In the end of eighty-nine

*sigh*

Always liked Super Trouper, and “Elaine” too. A good song for this timeline.

There must be something very wrong with me. I tried to be open. I irrationally hate this.

I cited Abba in my mom's obituary as a thing she enjoyed. I also named my new cat Fernando.

Learned only recently that a "Super Trouper" is a term for a specific kind of stage light. Did everyone but me know this? Knowing it makes the song stronger for me.

This record was on endless repeat on my parent's record player back when it came out.*
As a consequence, even though I haven't heard most of these songs in probably more than 30 years, I know most of them word for word.

* The other one was Tanya Tucker TNT. If your karoake team ever needs an Swedish disco/AM country gold ringer, I'm your guy.

When I was a kid I would listen to this album while I played with my plastic army men. Childhood is so freakin’ surreal.

We didn't have this album, but several of the tracks or on the Greatest Hits 8-track that we had for the car. So beautiful.

I, too, grew up with ABBA records in my household, but I only really came to appreciate them on my own terms in college, when they would still appear like clockwork on gay dancefloors in the '90s. "The Name of the Game" will always be my favorite ABBA song, but this has some lovely stuff on it.

I will take any opportunity I can to plug Benny's Piano album, which is simply delightful. Good for relaxing, karaoke, all of that. And he plays Happy New Year on it...

Camera Obscura does a great cover. Even more poignant live, but, yeah, that'll probably never happen again.

I lost my heart to a Super Trouper.

I have only listened to Abba on the radio / in other ambient ways and this... is... awesome

I'm not a fan of music, but this album was one of my dad's favorites, and hearing songs from it conjures up a memory of riding in his car, hearing the thudding sound system, his humming along, and the smell of Daddy. I sure miss him. Thank you.

Also, I thought "Two For The Price Of One" was very funny, at that age.
