That is just the cutest thing ever; he's like a Markov budgie.

Awww! This is adorable, thanks!

This is an issue with talking birds: they can record and play back all the goofy baby-talk things you say to them when you are alone.

Love parakeets! Do you suppose the LaCroix can is his God?

Aw! I have been trying to teach my adopted budgies R2-D2 - after 8 months, they just do it badly. But they all imitate the cockatiel perfectly.

Thank you! I needed this!

Some friends just got a budgie - I'm going to send this to them to inspire them to keep talking to it.

The can is his mirror. Which some people may, indeed, mistake for god.

Oh, man, those Siri beeps and imitations got me. I wonder if their phones ever get triggered?

And if so, where's the video of the parakeet turning the lights on and off and ordering 50 tons of sunflower seeds?

IT SURPRISED ME
THERE'S A REASON WHY IT'S EVIL

You better drop in line!

Are you using recorded repetition? You can put the sounds on your laptop or make a CD or something and set them to repeat all day while you're at work.

This is a good bird! One of the things I particularly like about parakeets talking is that they don't do the "Polly wanna cracker" high-pitched voice, but a lower register, like they could be taught do an excellent James Mason impression.

This bird is voiced by Frank Oz, apparently!

I really need to figure out how to turn "this is birdphone" with the chirps into my actual ringtone.

Oh my god hahahaha.

The more of videos I see of parakeets and African Greys, the more it drives home the fact that I really don't want a pet that talks constantly, that can imitate phone alert noises and weird crap like a creaking door opening and/or family members, partners or whatever - and that it'll probably outlive me.

Quick and dirty MP3 rip of "this is birdphone" for phone alert tones. Download link is in the top right.

I kind of do though. I don't want to adopt an eternal dinosaur toddler like an African grey or a cockatoo, simply because I could not keep up with its many needs and make it happy, but I might just be able to content a parakeet. I'm thinking it over.

The only successful parrot owner I've known already had three children. Go for thee 'keet!

We had a parrot (inherited) in college. Five college kids, three dogs two cats, a rabbit and the world's most socially active parrot. Post graduation he was lonely so he took off and joined a wild flock, his owner says he comes back to visit but won't let anyone catch him. Fair enough. I like to think he still torments unsuspecting dogs to this day.

I am using this R2-D2 clip - https://youtu.be/GoqD5kQs8nM

Somewhere before me, the adopted budgies picked up a Beethoven ringtone. Only two of them do it consistently and sometimes in stereo :D
