Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us.

"It's Not My Dog" is a music video about all kinds of charming dogs. "Cats Stealing Stuff" shows us just how devious cats are—so different from dogs.

I laughed out loud at coin kitty. Those are some impressive cats. Mine don't carry anything around.

Cat recognizes lack of opposable thumbs, enlists aid of human to get treats. Note cat's perfunctory 'kthxbye' meow at the end.

My Monster No.1 kitty brings me his favourite ribbon when he wants to play and I'm ignoring him. I can toss it and he retrieves it and brings it back if he's not finished playing. He's actually a dog/cat hybrid; but the worst of both...and he's working out a solution to the opposable thumb thing.

“I love my dog, he’s my dog/ If you don’t love my dog, that’s OK/ I don’t want you to, he’s my dog.”

This video for 'My Dog' by the Bottle Rockets features rockers and country musicians and their beloved pooches:

Mostly the cats are taking cat treats, which are clearly already theirs, or money which they need for more cat treats. They're just making life easier on their humans.

When are the mods going to address this horrible unfair bias on the front page? Would they allow this kind of nonsense to be said about porcupines?

My very favorite bit in that cat video is the nearly universal Pert Tail of Running Away. They're all so pleased and excited to have captured the thingy!

When our Kenda was a puppy we sought help from a trainer. Every puppy picks things up that they oughtn't have, so our trainer told us to offer Kenda a treat in exchange for the $randomitem. This worked great for about a week, when she figured out how to game the rules.

So for the last nine years, she has daily swept the shop floor for packing peanuts, bits of cardboard or the cut-off ends of zip ties. She then walks up to me and ostentatiously chews while looking me right in the eye, daring me to not trade her for a treat.

My dog has successfully trained me.

My father recently pet sat for us while we were out of town. When we got back, he informed us that our kitten had opened a cabinet, removed a package of oreos, and then fed them to the dog.

... and then fed them to the dog.

We have to be very careful about leaving food on the counter. The cat doesn't want to eat it, he just loves throwing it on the floor so the dog can eat it. It happened a couple times, with bratwursts and a steak, before we realized it wasn't accidental, it was the cat's goal. Our cat is a jerk but we love him anyway. Cat tax and proof he and the dog are best friends.

Our cat Prynne has an affinity for wedding rings. Mr. Kitty doesn't wear his around the house while he's doing renovations and we have video of our cat picking it up in her mouth and running under the bed with it. I've caught her taking my engagement ring off the dresser top and trying to chew it. Cats are thieves man.

My dog steals stuff. I don't want to anthropomorphize him too much, but it is definitely a thing he does when he feels I'm not living up to his expectations. I should set up a camera.

Desmond does something very similar. Only, he does it with poop. I haven't seen him actually try to eat the poop in a long while, but he still knows how the rules work. He'll come bounding up to me, and I can tell just by the glint in his eye and the angle of his jaw, what he's going to try to drop right in my lap soon as he gets the chance.

Yeah, I've had my share of thieving cats over the years. You want to be mad, but it's just too damn cute.

My Tommy's favorite new thing is fishing wrapped cough drops out of the dish on my nightstand with his paw, and running off with them in his teeth.

Before I was born, Mom had a cat who would open the hamper ,take one of her maternity dresses, cart it off into the Hall closet, and make it into a nest.

We recently got a rescue kitty. He's a 2.5 year-old Bengal, known to be sneaky tricksters. He is constantly moving his toys around. He has one of those a sticks with a mouse attached to it and it's somewhere new every morning. Busy kitty.

I caught my cat Ada trying to drag a large pizza box through the cat-door to the garage. Never mind that the human-door to the garage was open, ten inches away.

One of the things I think is underrated about these cat videos and something I always enjoy about them is how often the people videoing the cats are laughing along too. They'd aren't mad, they aren't yelling. They're probably a little frustrated because cats. But they know it's all part of "owning" a cat and we're only but so much in charge of things so we might as well be amused by the antics.
Cat people are my kind of people.

the-sky-traveler

my brother is teaching his cat how to high five by giving her a treat every time she successfully taps her hand to his hand, which is all well and good, but now she thinks that she is entitled to food every time she high fives someone. i can’t eat in the same room as her anymore because she’ll just bap my hand rapid fire and then go nyoom straight in for my pizza like no Kelly that’s illegal go finish ur own dinner
anonymous-bosch:

“No Kelly, that’s illegal.”
askragtatter:

So, a while back, I was using clicker-training to teach my cat Taz tricks. She learned very quickly and it was a good experience all around, but we had to hide the clicker.

Taz had learned that the clicker meant she got treats. So she would find it, carry it up to people, step on it to make it click, and then SCREAM AT THEM to give her the treats she was clearly owed because the clicker had made a sound.

This was my thought, too. They are “stealing” material things, but they are giving pure joy.

My ex husband had a cat that would steal dirty socks out of the laundry hamper and deposit them outside bedroom doors in proportion to how much she liked the person sleeping behind each door. The more she liked you, the more dirty socks you got. My ex was very proud that he always received the most socks.
