Your quiet moment of the day: Snowy owl chilling on an ice floe.
Snowy owls are known to hang out in the southeastern shore of Lake Ontario near Oswego this time of year. The video creator assured that it was not stuck, and that it changed to a calmer floe after about 30 minutes on that one. [via NPR]

NPR recommended Enya, but this is really working with it for me right now (don't... don't actually watch that video, i like the song but man.. i'm not trying to think too hard about what's going in that video)

There are a couple of snowy owls that have been hanging out on the coast in Gloucester, Mass. They don't seem to like each other much and got into an aerial battle yesterday.

Sorry NPR, I know you were going for a floe/flow thing, but your owl/Enya mashup pick is wrong.

I'm in a facebook group for raptor photos and the mod has banned photos of Snowies because so many photos are of birds that are baited or bumped (scared into flying off because the photographer gets too close). I want to slap that cell phone person. I take shitty bird photos (and yes there's a facebook group for that, too) with my cell phone and I know not to bump a bird. It's not that hard.

That is the cutest fucking thing I have ever seen, it remind me of my 4-year-old trying to jump into the pool last summer. Understandably, as it was a spring-fed pool so approximately -479°F.
