I looooved watching chicks hatch as a little kid. Waiting for them to hatch at our home in my jammies was better than Christmas.
(Later my mother, tough as nails(tm) had to give each and every one of those cute little fluffos a needle stab to vaccinate them)

A classroom hatching is how we ended up with Daisy the Pet Hen. The kid next door used to carry her around on his shoulder while he hand-fed her worms he'd dug.

It’s a grade school thing, every time we go to a birthday party now, Happy Birthday now ends with a “cha cha cha, Hi-ya! , Chinese chicken!”

Depending on the class, there may be additional parts. I don’t get it either, but every single kid does it.

Thank you for this post. I just finished a brutal day, week, actually, dealing with the fallout of all the depth of misery humans deal to one another. This was the perfect antidote. I am in constant wonder of how there can be so much good and yet so much bad in the world. At this point, and I’m serious about this, we need to put a bunch of well adjusted kindergartners in charge of everything.

I have always wondered about the cha cha cha, but my 40something coworker's been doing it for a decade, so I think it precedes the schoolchildren.

I have never heard of this cha cha cha thing!

Around here it's

"...Happy Birthday to you.
...And Many more....
...on Channel 4...."

Like The Underpants Monster this is also how our family came to own a pet chicken named Beeker.

She spent more time in the horse barn than she did the chicken coop - she roosted and fed with them so much that we were sure she thought she was a horse and not a hen. This was most evident whenever our german shepard would be bad and nip at the horses hooves for entertainment, Beeker would light after it and chase that big dog around the farm yard until he stopped his bad behavior.

The operative word in that sentences being well adjusted.

And where I grew up we also said and “many more...from channel four”. Later we appended “with Amy Sporer” - a channel four anchor? No cha cha cha for Denverites.

We ended it with "You're getting old... you've got grey hair... you smell like feet... but we don't care."
