boy, that sure is a joke that keeps on going

as the old saying goes, "Brevity is the soul of wit, except that sometimes, you might arguably be better served by something much longer and much more drawn out; however, there is at least a significant chance that you run the risk of doing harm to the effect of something otherwise far more compact and focused."

My grandfather enjoyed Star Wars quite a bit. I'm not sure if it's better or worse that he died before prequels.

Kidding of course. I'd do quite a lot to have another conversation with him and I think he would have enjoyed TLJ.

Needs more crossovers with properties that Disney actually owns (of course, by the years farther out on the bit, they could own everything...)

Snow White and the Seven Ewoks
The Little Wookieemaid
Wall-E-D-2
Finding 3PO
Lando & Ferb
Skywalker: Homecoming
Black Bantha
X-Wing-Men
Yoda's Pilgrimage to Muppetland
Porgs and Pigs in Space

I could go on... with the Fox merger they could also do A New Bart...

R2D2 and C3PO are Dead is a fun throwaway idea, and while it's delicious to relish the notion of an entire film taken from these two side characters, I would be genuinely delighted if someone tried to make a film about how, at the core of it all, the real heroes of all IX movies are: R2 and Chewbacca -- the droid slave of Obi-Wan, Anakin and Luke, and the non-human foreigner who knew the secret of Luke and Leia and recruited Han to be his face man while he ran supply missions for the Rebels under the guise of being the quiet, underestimated sidekick of a cocky smuggler.

Looking a little further into the past:
"Singin' in the rain (of death star debris onto the moon of endor)"
"HAR-V" (a man insists he is followed everywhere by an invisible 6'8" droid, designation HAR-V)

Oh dear, there's actually a screenplay for "Sith Eye for the Jedi" just for the googling.

R2-D2 and C3PO Are Dead could almost be made now, just by adding some connective tissue to a supercut of all their appearances thus far.

C3PO: What's the matter with you today?
R2-D2: Bleep?
C3PO: What?
R2-D2: Bloop boop ee?
C3PO: Am I dead?
R2-D2: DrRrR enh Bloop?
C3PO: Is there a choice?
R2-D2: Dweep bop beep doodle beep?
C3PO: Foul! No non sequiturs! Three... two, one game all.

R2-D2: Beep wOOoo beep?
C3PO: What's yours?
R2-D2: Boop.
C3PO: Statement! One... love.

R2-D2: Bwoo-beep boop woop enh beep?
C3PO: What's yours?
R2-D2: Woop doot enh beep?
C3PO: Is it different at home?
R2-D2: Doodle enh beep?
C3PO: Haven't you got one?
R2-D2: Deedleedle-beep?
C3PO: What are you driving at?
R2-D2: Deedleedle-beep?
C3PO: Repetition! Two... love. Match point.

R2-D2: ReEEer doodlewoop boop?
C3PO: Rhetoric! Game and match!

Spaceballs 2: The Quest for More Money (2028)

That is the only one needed. I would happily give up all of the future Star Wars movies for this, although I do feel obliged to point out that it is "The Search for More Money."

Also, it would mean Mel Brooks making a movie at the age of 100, which would be incredible in its own right.

.... must ... not ... comment....

Oh fuck it. The Clone Wars and the Rebellion were two distinct events.
posted by Tell Me No Lies at 3:15 PM on February 15, 2018 [3 favorites]

Well, yes, very shortly after the rebellion they're considered two different wars, but eventually they'll be considered a single war, just as it's been suggested that historians in future centuries may consider World Wars I and II a single war with an interlude, or how we talk about the Hundred Years War as a single war.
