Gone way, way too soon. Her movies were such a big part of the 90s. Her turn in English Vinglish was delightful, and it was so wonderful that she was coming back to acting after a break to raise her kids. She had tremendous star power and absolutely lit up the screen.
I am still having trouble believing it.

What a loss, and so shockingly young. She had amazing larger-than-life charisma—I still vividly remember the impact of her performance as twins in the otherwise-pretty-awful Chaalbaaz, which I watched as a kid. And although English Vinglish is truly lovely, and I enjoyed her gentle and toned-down performance in it, I still have a nostalgic preference for the 90s Bollywood megastar version of Sridevi, snake dances and Charlie Chaplin rip-offs and all.

She had to be more than 54, I've been watching her for years.

There's a lot of chatter on social media about cosmetic surgery gone wrong, with people saying how small she looked when she came back for English Vinglish. I wasn't aware that she is credited as having brought plastic surgery to Bollywood, but since all that is gossip and there is apparenty a family history for Heart problems ( I think an Aunt died young in similar circumstances) I'm going with all the people who are getting their BP & LDL checked and getting on medication as a result of the horror and shock they feel at her early demise.

Infini, it may appear like that because people have been watching her for 50 years? She debuted at 4 yrs old.

The Dubai government is reporting that a post-mortem is showing the cause of death as "accidental drowning" in a bathtub following loss of consciousness.

This sounds awfully suspicious, especially coming on the heels of a completely different cause of death.

Cause of death is drowning, heart attack is the cause of loss of consciousness. Perhaps.

Oh that's really too bad - 54 is too young.

Sridevi was a truly remarkable performer and her performances paved the way for contemporary Indian actresses. Within my circle of friends she was our first Bollywood crush - always delightful, funny, charming and beautiful. She will be missed.

I don't recall seeing any of her movies growing up, but that had more to do with the fact that I only got into Hindi movies in the mid-90s and she stopped making Hindi movies in 1997. But she was a familiar face from hours spent watching Hindi film songs on TV; she was elegant and beautiful, and had so much personality. It feels really odd, and sad, to think of such a familiar face from my growing-up years, just gone like that. 54 is too young, it's just terrible for her family.

Mother said Indian news says she was high on a cocktail of painkillers and slipped and fell in the bathtub. There were three autopsies before they released the body to go to India for the funeral.
