I would argue that the Trevor Jones parts of the 1984 Labyrinth Soundtrack Album are equally as strong as the David Bowie parts. Side A: Opening Titles Including Underground, Into The Labyrinth, Magic Dance, Sarah, Chilly Down, Hallucination

Side B; As The World Falls Down [video], The Goblin Battle, Within You, Thirteen O'Clock, Home At Last, Underground [video]

"Because we all love classic 80s remixes" Bonus: Magic Dance (A Dance Mix), Underground (Extended Dance Mix).

Additional Bonus: If you like this Trevor Jones material, chech out his movie score for Runaway Train, a movie which you should see if you haven't.

Hearing any part of the Labyrinth soundtrack time-warps me back to when I was an obsessive nine year old with an enormous framed copy of the movie poster above my bed.

After seeing the movie at the age of 11, this was the first cassette tape I ever purchased on my own. It was in near constant rotation for years and I still listen to it and will defend it and o the death.

The trumpet solo on Home at Last is one of the best and most haunting pieces from this film. I am not a fan of most of the Trevor Jones stuff, mostly because Bowie is basically God himself as far as I can tell, but that piece is a recent discovery for me and one more reason to love Labyrinth. Also, Beverly Crusher as choreographer on the extras just completes the loop.

Hurrah! This is the best Labyrinth soundtrack post since this totally unrelated post, still one of my favorite MetaFilter moments.

My only problem with the Trevor Jones tracks from LABYRINTH is that they sound as if they're played almost entirely on a Fairlight or a Synclavier, and sound, well, cheap to my ears now. I have the same problem with a lot of Zappa's later works. The music itself is terrific, but my brain hears General MIDI. My problem, not yours or Jones's or Zappa's.

I constantly listened to this while I did my homework during high school. Hearing it again brings me back to that place -- such a strange one. I can feel both the loneliness and despair of the teen girl and the vast irritation of the adult woman who just wants to shake her by the shoulders.

In 1984 a Fairlight or a Synclavier was the utter cutting edge of technology and was the opposite of cheap. There were very few in existence.

I guess the historical context of the production is something that I hear when I listen. I don't think much live instrumentation was used for the Jones tracks, but the effort it took to create those tracks with all those instrumental layers and the quality of the samples are both outstanding. I love them.

Power of VOODOO!

The thing with this soundtrack LP is that tunes that were good in the movie are dragged to torturous lengths to fill out the 45 mins of the vinyl. Endless. Pointless. Noodling!

Pushing Ahead of the Dame is as ever excellent and exhaustive on the songs
