What it says on the tin. Well except for the fact that they are using classroom instruments.

So wait, when did Metallica get a self deprecating sense of humor? Or in fact any sense of humor at all?

Lars's drum tone remains unmistakable.

They've pretty much always been that way. After James went to rehab he emerged as this sort of straight-edged, mature, new-agey, feelgoodnic. Much less angry, though AFAIK still into big game hunting and I'd guess somewhat conservative. I think Lars may have realized nobody liked him and he pulled back on the whole Napster thing and now admits his mistake. Kirk is just Kirk. Generic Guitar Wanker #5563. The new bass guy seems pretty cool and he even shows up in a Nickle Creek video, which is kind of cool. They've always had a pretty good sense of humor, though they always do that "serious band is serious" thing.

I pretty much stopped caring about them once I heard Load, but lately I've been digging watching their live stuff on YouTube. I'd almost be willing to see them again if they played a non-stadium show and tickets weren't, like, $300 or whatever bullshit bands charge for arena shows now.

I really want to slap Fallon in the face with a four day-old trout for a number of reasons but then he keeps doing stuff like this that is just pure fun. I guess, for the most part, I'm glad he has his show.

I just wanna say that Kirk Hammett has the most epic horror movie poster collection that I got to see a few hundred times because of my son's insistence we visit it every.single.week. it was on display. (It was a really great exhibit.)

Unrelated to the topic at hand but the kids now associate Metallica with a museum and horror movies.

Fallon is kind of a tool, but I like the Roots, and I like this sort of segment. So conflicted. If I could stay awake past 10pm I don't know what I'd do!

And just to switch it around a little, here you have the same song covered on standard instruments by sisters who were 9, 12, and 14 years old at the time.

The Rock-1 Rhythm preset on the venerable Casio VL-Tone is no mere click track.

I really didn't want to like this and then I loved it.

So conflicted.

it's good, it's fun, it's funny -- it's way better than Donald Trump. Why be conflicted?
