You fear the year will blow like a breeze through a rainbow

Folk, rock, Americana, and Celtic all run strongly through Carbon Leaf's first major label album (Vanguard) fifth studio album, 2004's Indian Summer. [ Ed. note:I saw this band in an 800 seat theater open for Blues Traveler touring for this album and they won the night. Followed them strongly since then.] CD Tracklisting: Life Less Ordinary, What About Everything?, Changeless [cuts off suddenly, album version not album length], This Is My Song!, Grey Sky Eyes, Raise The Roof, Paloma, One Prairie Outpost, Let Your Troubles Roll By, When I'm Alone, The Sea

While Vanguard owned the recordings of the songs, the band owned the songs themselves. After a decade of performing these songs live, the band recreated the album in 2014, in their own studio, with the rhythm guitarist also serving as producer and engineer. I like it: Revisited Vinyl Side A:: Life Less Ordinary, What About Everything?, Changeless, This Is My Song!

Side B: Grey Sky Eyes, Raise The Roof, Paloma, One Prairie Outpost

Side C: Let Your Troubles Roll By, When I'm Alone, The Sea

Side D: Etched with butterfly logo

Aw, man, I love Carbon Leaf. Life Less Ordinary has been one of my favorite love-as-proposal songs now for--wow, must be over a decade. Wow.

These guys came to a little theater in my town and I wasn't able to see them and I've regretted it ever since. I've only heard a couple of their songs but I kind of know I'd dig them.

Such a good album. My sister introduced them to me and I've followed them for a while, although they've fallen off my radar the past little while. I think someone here mentioned that they've come back to form, so I've meant to put them back in the rotation.

I love them so much! To the point where I just booked tickets for my 31st show and am waiting for sales to open on my 32nd and 33rd.

They are touring *right now* in celebration of their 25th year - we saw them in Wilmington, DE a couple weeks ago, as the closer-to-DC dates coincide with a vacation we have planned. They played two songs that will be featured on an upcoming release, and I believe they even have some European dates coming up in the fall!

Tour dates here, hands down, my favorite band.

Oh hey they're coming back to the little theater in my town but I won't be around then. *sigh*

Love the original, but I can't get behind Revisited. It's definitely a subjective question of taste, but to me Revisited sounds too slick, squeaky-clean, overproduced.

I found the interesting thing about the re-recorded record to be how they incorporated the sort of evolution of the material - if you’ve seen them play live a *lot*, you can trace some of the sonic “drift” on the recordings back to how they tweak the music when they actually perform it. It’s fun!

They basically remade Indian Summer, reimagined Love Loss Hope Repeat, and reworked Nothing Rhymes With Woman. All three re-releases are interesting in their own right, and worth hearing if you're a fan.

it's interesting that skull head says that Revisited sounds too slick and overproduced. it was done in their own space, named Two Car Studio, because it's a converted garage. Terry did the production and the recording. (I really like how Terry records drums, actually.)

Anyway, CL continues to do new material. I'm looking forward to hearing anything new and also hopefully seeing them again once they hit this corner of the country. For some reason they always play Spokane, so that's fun. It's the same crowd that goes to see them so there's this weird feeling of being a part of a sort of extended family at their shows.

"Raise the Roof" has one of my favorite lyrics ever:

Touch me again in my dreams 'til I feel
Touch me again 'til I wake and it's real
