I'm afraid I just blue myself.

This posting really came Out of the Blue.

Considering how often they've been compared to the Moody Blues (or accused of stealing from them, or among those who didn't know who came first, vice versa)...

[says the guy who as a child BEGGED his parents for the ELO debut album] I forgor how good Mr. Blue Sky is. Might have to add some ELO to my work rotation. Also, I didn't recall Jeff Lynne being so scary looking. Maybe I am just having issues with him sans shades.

I am fairly sure I had ever seen Jeff Lynne sans shades until five minutes ago. To quote another guy who also had his commercial zenith in the seventies, wish I didn’t know now that what I didn’t know then.

This is EXTREMELY tangential but necessary to link any time any member of the group is mentioned: While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison, and Prince (died two years ago today), who materializes on stage at the end, blisters the skin off everyone's faces, throws his guitar in the air, and dematerializes.

Very cool. If you listen to a lot of Bowie you start to notice the prevalence of the colour blue over others in his lyrics too.

Also, Fizz, thank you for reminding me what a sucker I am for Jeff Lynne's voice. There is something about it that really gets me. NO clue what it is, but it gets me. It's been so long since I have heard ELO, I have forgotten that and it makes me smile to rediscover this. This means DEFINITE ELO on the work rotation. (Especially next week. It's going to suck due to building renovation.)

Mr. Blue Sky never fails to make me happy. One, because it's just a damn fine song. Two, because my friend's first words to her son after he was born were

Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, mister blue sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for

She posts the song on Facebook every year on his birthday, and he's just my favorite little kid, and maybe it's because the first words he heard on Earth were ELO.

Oh man my first ever record album was ELO’s Out of the Blue. The one with the spaceship paper model inside. I wish I still had it.

Actually, it may have been my second. I was really in love with Pablo Cruise for a few months there. Or..,?

It’s all jumbled up: ELO, Pablo Cruise, Foghat Live.

No definitely I think it was the ELO. That seems like the same Christmas when the LA Rams and the Minnesota Vikings went at it in the mud.

so much love for ELO here! Later today I think I'll play all their LPs, just for the Blue of it.

I love Mr. Blue Sky. I'm going to see Jeff Lynne's ELO in August with my sister at Madison Square Garden. My sisters and I grew up with ELO--my mom was a big fan--and I'm pretty freaking excited.

The first time I got properly high was while listening to ElDorado by ELO. Because of this thread i had a re-listen. Respect! Holds up well.

ELO is one of the bands that, given their entire music collection, helped me make sense of this life. I bought their entire collection on CD a few years ago and binge listened to them across a couple weekends. It was amazing.

Great thread

My six-year-old and I were driving around town on a rainy day and played "Mr. Blue Sky" and she had me put the windows down so the sky could hear. And then it stopped raining.

We actually drove to a part of town where it wasn't raining but she thought it was magic.
