Weekend weirdness: Vladimir Cauchemar's Aulos music video

Back in December, an artist going by Vladimir Cauchemar released a single track called Aulos (Soundcloud), a "flute-trap" track released on Ed Banger Records by a mysterious individual often referred to as a Russian recorder artist. And then there's the music video, which starts off like a slightly rough personal video of a guy playing an invisible flute, and then it gets weird. [Bonus Ed Banger symphonic covers inside]

Likely named for the Aulos recorder (vs Yamaha comparison video), as seen in the music video, but it has been played on numerous instruments. If you want to join, here's the guitar tabs. But the Ed Banger crew pushed it to the next level, and turned into a full symphonic number (YT, linking to 36 min. 16 sec. in) as part of their 15th anniversary celebration, which was a symphony concert with the Lamoureux Orchestra, live at Le Grand Rex.

Vladimir Cauchemar is an alias for Guillaume Brière, half of the French duo, The Shoes. But Guillaume has used this alter ego for a few remixes for the likes of David Guetta and Sia and The Magician, pretty much as a short-hand to note that there'll be some recorder in the mix.

I remember the Ed Banger Records logo from the beginning of the semi-legendary video of Justice's "DVNO" so I was prepared for something weird and fun. Yes, a pretty standard "video overdub", but Vladimir/Guillaume's deadpan performance sells it.

Huh, I'm really glad to see Ed Banger are still at it. I followed their releases obsessively about 10 years ago after discovering Justice but I kind of lost touch after a while. This is fun as heck.
