I've Pet That Dog!

I discovered this twitter account the other day and it is simply delightful!
In a world where many things just seem sad and mean, these tweets are good and pure and just what I need right now and I think I’ve smiled at every single one.
(And that Vice interview is a delight in itself!)

They’re all good dogs, Gideon. 11/10.

I like Gideon’s style! I often skritch dogs’ heads after politely inquiring their name. Once I used my charming godson (whose cuteness was like unto that of a button), then about three or four as my wingman: I would say, “you should go and ask that lady what her dog’s name is.”

He would gamely ask: “Excuse me, ma’am, can I ask what your dog’s name is?” The owner would then respond that the dog’s name was Toby or Stella or Bailey or whatever it might be. My godson would then thoughtfully answer, “That’s what I thought his name was.”

I LOVE this kid! I hope he gets to pet an American Eskimo.

And Lambeau is a cutie, who yes, is interested in that ice cream...

He likes dogs, and those dogs clearly like him.

There's something very satisfying about seeing a happy dog.

Best of the web. Thanks, I really need to read more positive things like this.

So great. Been following him for a few days now and the tweets always brighten this otherwise shitty timeline. And love that he often uses his platform to publicize dogs that need adopting.

Romeo and Etta better have homes by tomorrow.

Also I think I am in the minority on this, but I really want the past tense of "pet" to be "petted". Hrmph.

I wanted to start a Twitter account just like this, but as a thirty-something, I realize it'd probably be weird for me to approach strangers with dogs.

Doing good work, Gideon.

I'm a 43 year old guy and no one has ever had a problem with it. I don't ask runners, bikers, or others who are obviously On a Mission. If the dog walker is a woman, I make it clear I'm only interested in the dog and I don't ask her any questions about herself ("do you live around here," etc).

I was enjoying his blog until I noticed how much he looks like a young Emma Watson and now I have a slight uncanny valley feeling when I look at the photos.

Also, Gideon looks like a young Bob Weir.

This is the purest thing and I actually cried a little tear at the bar when I first learned of it.

Do you have advice for people who want to do something similar?
Uh [long pause], uh [long pause], uh [long pause], well—tr—no, not actually really.

I love his answer. Just about every adult would give a long babbling answer about the secrets to success. A 10 year old is naive and honest enough to say "I don't know".

Now that is the best use of twitter I have seen in some time. Perhaps ever seen.

I've been doing this for years on Instagram using the hashtag #SelfWithNotMyDog, and you'd be surprised how open people are to letting you play with their dogs while you take selfies.
