Well any steps towards getting the classic series into streaming format are good I guess.

I was watching an old movie tonight, and almost the second I hit "stop" and "eject" on my DVD player my roommate all but catapulted out of his room to run to the Playstation and download Twitch so we could watch this.

I confess that I stopped being a Dr. Who aficionado when Tom Baker (“all teeth and curls”) was no longer swanning about the multiverse as the fourth incarnation in his floppy hat and long, multi-hued, wooly scarf.

But I must say, having the ability to stream them all, for free, has definitely rekindled an interest!

I guess this means that I have to figure out how to use Twitch.

I think you click on the channel in a web browser and it starts. You might have to hit play after the viewer loads.

As I've said before, forget the game streams. Twitch is the medium that gave us marathons of Cosmos, Bob Ross, Mister Rogers, Power Rangers, MST3K, plus a channel dedicated to RiffTrax 24/7, and 'live creative' streams of webcomickers drawing their comics (today I saw Loading Artist on his channel that features a cartoon audience and other live animations and bouncing emojis provided by chat room users). When I think of "gaming on Twitch", I think of live broadcast of the annual Desert Bus marathon.

And Twitch is ridiculously easy to use; just go to the relevant channel (https://www.twitch.tv/whoeverthechannelbelongsto) and if nothing is live on the channel, it'll play either a promo clip for the upcoming event or a replay of the last thing that ran on that channel (if it's not to old). The "twitchpresents" channel for the Who-a-thon is not yet previewing anything for the event. Especially interesting that the 'thon will run through July 23, which will totally overlap with San Diego ComicCon, from which twitchpresents broadcast several live events last year. I'll bet SDCC will get its own channel this year.

Twitch is full of ANGRY WHITE GUYS YELLING AT THINGS. I'm sure it's got lots of other things too, but it's a bit of a hassle to not have it open up with YELLING GUYS. (Subscribing to something helps - you'll have something to click on instead of having to watch the Featured Presentation. I recommend the Bob Ross channel; it's quiet.)

Sidenote: the article in the post is unreadable on Opera; it keeps going back to the main page. Something in their scripting is incompatible with Opera; had to open it in another browser.

Also, can't figure out how to set a reminder for an event in the desktop app. I can see it in the browser, but can't find it in the app.

Isn't there just a way to slide the video to the side and cover the chat window? I seem to remember that being a feature when I was watching Bob Ross. Like, without even being logged in or anything. You just find the right symbol to punch and boom, it's gone?

That's how all similar services work.

There's a tiny little arrow you can use to dismiss the chat panel, it's at the top to the right of the "Get Bits" button.

The joke is that this particular apparent miracle was actually A TRAP, RUN FOR IT!

I guess I thought Twitch was some sort of gaming chat system for consoles. I try to stay far away from that world.

I use twitch for watching and occasionally chatting with nice ladies painting things aka Creative Twitch and Bob Ross. I'm sure I'll be dipping into this, but probably not all 500 episodes.

If that’s something you wouldn’t mind paying for, BritBox has you covered.

Who's the classic doctor who comes to Twitch for 7-week marathon? I'm on tenterhooks here.

I am unreasonably excited about this! I've been a fan since Pertwee, Davidson and both Bakers graced the screen of TVOntario in the 80s.

I just wish it were in the winter. Why must they do it when the weather is nice and everything is green and lovely outside? Hard choices are haaaard.

fiercecupcake, the episode list is up. From what I recall of the episodes given the names, they really are covering at least a few episodes from everyone from Hartnell to McCoy.

I am likely not big enough of an anorak but it took me a couple years to get through a rewatch of the whole of the classic Who so 7 weeks seems a bit short. Is there a list of what they are going to show? Since it is only 500 episodes (there's, with the movie, 694 episodes) I'm gonna assume they are not going to use any of the animated recreations of the lost episodes (sorry Patrick Troughton) or any surviving single episodes but I'm curious what they are leaving out.

*on edit - oop, i see the list now *

Aww, weekdays only? I suppose it's someone's job and all to run the stream, but I'd be much more able to fit in weekend viewing.

It's entirely possible the channel will be active over weekends too. It would be worth checking out to see... They might just do an "off the air" thing or they might just run through episodes from the previous week as filler.

@elsandifer
I haven't been following Doctor Who on Twitch very closely but holy fuck the kids are all right.
