The semi-fictional band Gorillaz have a new video out. It's called Humility. [Gorillaz previously]

This is definitely one of those videos where the music feels more like a score than like the headline act. That video was super fun though.

I've had a soft spot for Gorillaz since day 1, and every time their sound changes, I'm 100% alright with it.

Most mind-blowing part of the video: it's an actual, "can't make this shit up, not enough drugs in the world" crossover with The Powerpuff Girls.

Yeah. That's a thing.

Gorillaz hold a very special place in my heart as a band that has been there for A LOT of my formative years. One of the first 4 CDs I ever owned was their self titled album.

I missed them dearly during the hiatus they took after Plastic Beach/The Fall, and am so glad they seem to be back in a rhythm.

(One day I will find a copy of Rise of the Ogre that doesn't cost 150 dollars)

For the unenlightened, this is Ace, who's subbing for Murdoc while the latter is in jail. He used to antagonize the Powerpuff Girls in Townsville.

Naturally, Ace plays bass.

While it had some serious highlights, their previous album Humanz didn't really cohere for me. Their albums before that all had a consistent identity, but Humanz felt like just a collection of unrelated songs. I'd guess this was because it had 17 different guest musicians on it. In contrast, this upcoming album is going to have three. I'm looking forward to hearing what Gorillaz sounds like in 2018, when Albarn is left mostly to his own devices.

*puts her copy in the safe place with her other Jamie Hewlett collectibles*

That was my boyfriend Snoop playing chess with Noodle, right?

Finally, I generally do not like Jack Black. And that is all I have to say about that.

If I put this into a blender with Splatoon 2 will I get a new Jet Set Radio because the culture seem to be screaming for it.

Saw Jack Black and noped out. He annoys me.

Well, if this definitively establishes that Jack Black is as much a fictional character as the rest of the band...

Aww, I love Jack Black's dumb antics. He does them perfectly in this video.

I wish Damon Albarn would bring back Dan the Automator and Tina Weymouth & Chris Franz, his music needs their rhythmic touch again.

That was great. I used to love Gorillaz but haven't really listened to anything of theirs since Plastic Beach. Seems like it might be time to rectify that.

I notice that 2-D is wearing Beats by Dre, because of course.

Wait, I'm behind on my Gorrilaz lore - Murdoc's in jail? What's the story there? (Not that it's particularly surprising, mind you. That's why I'm asking. There are about a hundred different ways he could have ended up in jail.)

Smuggling. He says he was framed.

While it only has a vizualizer, they also released another song yesterday

They also did a new song with Snoop back in March.

(Further cementing my belief that it's him in the video.)
