And here I thought getting my rocks off from cheap beer and vintage paperbacks was antisocial.

There is no end to my continual surprise at people's resounding determination that banal street violence is virtuous. It makes me appreciate the thugs in my neighborhood more; at least they aren't pulled straight from a Palahniuk book.

"no pain" indeed.

"hooligan" is such a silly term for these thugs. It brings to mind some kids throwing toilet paper over someone's lawn, not grown men who routinely seek out street brawls.

I can't decide whether to go with "Christ, what and asshole" or "I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn".

I often wonder how much these people actually care about the performance of their teams on the field. I suspect not very much.

Bill Buford's Among the Thugs looked at this phenomenon too.

Yeah, there are so many firms. When I lived near Ibrox, you just knew that you didn't go out around the time of the game.

There's also this recently released film about the same topic. Well worth the watch if you can bear the terrible cringey parts. It would seem though, surprise surprise, propaganda about Russian "hooligans" is ever-so-slightly in vogue these days.

I really wonder who this is:
"the tattoo on his forearm of a famous Russian poet, whom he described as a “true patriot”"
