Rab the Giant versus the Witch of the Waterfall is a charming story about a modern day Glaswegian giant and his run-in with a witch.

Author description from Fireside Fiction:

Brian M. Milton is a short, tweed bound writer living in the wilds south of Glasgow. He splits his time between running away from bees, writing up daft ideas and trying to work for a living. He is a member of the Glasgow Science Fiction Writers Circle and has many bruises to show for their robust critiquing methods. He has also been published in anthologies such as Thirty Years of Rain and Caledonia Dreamin’ as well as the magazine KZine and can be found shouting at things on the internet as @munchkinstein

And his fellow workers knew him as "Wee Rab". What a good story! Thanks for posting it.

This was very charming. I really tend to like stories of the "convention demands that we battle to the death but let's introduce this simple, cozy solution instead" variety.

Lovely. Just the kind of "Magic making home in the modern world like Raccoons hiding in cities" story I adore.

Wee Rab was totally chill in the face of a known (if sadly weary) deadly adversary.
He handled it like a trooper.
Good on him (and Callie -- some things you've just got to let go).

Oh that so makes me miss living in Scotland. I've found no decent giants nor witches here in California. Lovely story!

I love the perspective that the modern world, for all its obvious faults, allows us to be better people.

Dare I say, Gaiman-esque?

We ended up in Belfast instead of Dublin on our honeymoon because I insisted on seeing the Giant's Causeway. The bit about considering Finn, but being terrified of his baby is straight from that story as well. I love it when these sorts of things are incorporated into modern stories.

This made me smile and laugh. Thanks.
