Last June, NPR Music's Lars Gotrich tweeted just one word: "roséwave." Then, a follow-up that was more like a challenge: "Y'all can already list 5 bands for which roséwave rings true, c'mon." He wasn't exactly describing a genre — more a lifestyle that deserved (or, perhaps, inherently contained within it) its own soundtrack.

I find All Songs Considered quite annoying (though they do pick out some good artists.) The patter is like nails on a chalkboard. Lars Gotrich's section of it is the outlier.

I’m looking forward to the Numero compilation that will come out in 30 years.

According to the soundtrack link, people who live the rosewave lifestyle listen to the radio and tune it to Jack FM (or whatever your local version is called).

the original tweet is pretty funny, watching people attempt to codify "something maybe a little basic, but makes you feel good" less so

is this just a rebranding of Yacht Rock?

I can’t think of 5 bands, Lorde and lo-fi hip hop beats?

Is this something I'd have to have Big Dick Energy to understand?

God damnit there’s Mr. Brightside at number 68. Now I have to hate myself while non-inronically-but-faking-ironic enjoying of the the whole damn list.

I feel like someone's trying to sell me a 6 buck bottle of rosé for twenty dollars.

Anyways, offhand, I feel like "roséwave" should be some combination of 70's California hot-tub rock, '80s Balearic beat, Brazilian MPB, and lots of Joni Mitchell and Lana Del Rey.

(Because that's what I was listening to the other night while drinking rosé.)

I've come to assume that any mention of rosé is being driven by one of the obnoxious, overlapping marketing campaigns intended to get millennials to make it their drink of choice. What I first noticed as a summer-long series of irritating bar specials and events in DC ~3 years ago has evolved into a sustained, multipronged psy-ops campaign that is probably being studied in Russian information warfare classes as we speak.

In short, for shame Lars Gotrich - for shame.

Not to be confused with rosewave.

That would include us, since we discussed rosé (excuse me, brosé) on the Blue in 2015.

A mere 3 months earlier, mathowie announced he was leaving MeFi.

We're on the other side of the mirror now, aren't we?

I had a pretty good idea of what I thought Rosewave, might sound like and I completely expected both this and this (not just for obvious reasons). Was disappointed.

Chillwave + Roséwave = Froséwave?

I am not at all ashamed to admit that I've had this spotify playlist on pretty regular rotation since listening to the roséwave episode of "It's Been a Minute" last summer. What I love about roséwave is that people always laugh when I mention it, but they also know exactly what it means, instantly.

I've come to assume that any mention of rosé is being driven by one of the obnoxious, overlapping marketing campaigns intended to get millennials to make it their drink of choice.

I mean, you can pretty much assume that anytime a new food or drink becomes popular, seemingly out of nowhere (I remember my dad, as a member of the media, being invited to an event about the wonders of olive oil in the late 80s, shortly before it suddenly became popular).

Personally, I like rosé because it tastes light and fresh, and, to be honest, not much like most wines. I've never been much of a wine drinker, but rosé is perfect for my wine-blind palate.

Am I the only one for whom the phrase “roséwave” immediately brings to mind Kenny G and Michael Bolton?
